Default Questions for all

Hello All

It has been a very long time since I have posted...part becasue I kind of forgot about me having PCOS...crazy...right. Or maybe it was just denial.

I went to a party last night for BBW women. And it this party I saw women with smooth skin and long hair. But they also had heavy abdominal fat and are well over 250 lbs.

The question that I have is... Is PCOS selective? In that I mean...why do they have the obesity but not the disease...or is it that the symptoms are different for all people?

Pls someone help because I am feeling very confused.

Thanks

Tammara

howdo you know they dont have pcos?

you cant tell just by looking at someone..for instance there are skinny cysters too.

for someone that does have pcos... the outward signs can vary from person to person....some may only have hair loss....others may be overweight with acne..or some may not look like anything is abnormal..but they arent ovulating or getting periods..

there is no one size fits all for pcos..thats for sure xo jenn

I have a feeling that PCOS is in fact a selective condition. My best girlfreind is overweight as well but its just that, shes over weight. In her words "I just like cheese too much". I on the other hand would be quite content with a loaf of bread. Being rather symptomatic every cyster has all kinds of different symptoms. Some cysters might be over weight some cysters not. It is usally how our body reacts to the paricular imbalance in our systems.

I believe it is totally possible to be overweight or thin and not have the condition. Obesity is a symptom of PCOS not the cause. For example, if I didn't have PCOS I would look like my family (tall and thin) but since I have it I am overweight because I am IR. Also, those who are overweight and have family that is just overweight will be overweight. Obesity is genetics, environment and imbalances in our systems its just not one thing.

If PCOS was a diesese then perhaps it would be possible to pinpoint a person who has it. Unfortunatly, its a syndrome meaning that there are a whole list of symptoms....like prunepie said "there is no one size fits all for pcos". The best thing you can do is to deal with your own individual symptoms and secretly hate the BBW that has the nice skin...lol. GL hon, hope this helps...

I think it's also important to remember that not everyone has the same PCOS symptoms, or has them to the same degree. For instance, I could have been one of those women you're talking about - I've never had trouble with thinning hair, though these days I choose to wear it fairly short. I also have smooth skin - thanks to hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars spent on electrolysis over the past 10 years.

That doesn't mean that I don't have PCOS - just that I've either been spared, or learnt to manage, some of my symptoms. Others remain an ongoing challenge to me - but it's probably a different challenge to yours, because we're all individuals, and this syndrome affects us all differently.
