Default Questions on BCP...

Can someone please explain to me how the BCP helps with your PCOS. If PCOS is supposed to make you infertile then besides regulating your periods how does the BCP help that? Doesn't the BCP PREVENT pregnancy? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks,
Nicole

The way my GYN explained it to me, the birth control pill will help regulate your cycles, especially if you are irregular or don't get one at all. You're not actually ovulating when you're on a BCP. The inactive pills cause a "withdrawl bleed," as my nurse practitioner said. It's to give the appearance of a normal cycle, and it keeps new cysts or polyps from forming on your ovaries.

BC Pills regulate your periods which can be extremely helpful if you bleed constantly or rarely. The estrogen in the pills help lower testosterone by sort of mopping up the free roaming test. in your blood stream. It raises your sex hormone binding glob.
The pill also supresses ovulation most of the time so it does slow or stop the formation of cysts in the ovaries.

These are some of the benefits I take the pill for. It also keeps my skin and hair in normal limits visually. Many people don't like taking the pill but for some it is a very effective way to manage symptoms, especially if diet and exercise don't effect them. Insulin sens. meds work for many as well but if you are not IR many doctors don't like to prescribe for long term treatment unless trying to conceive. Hope this helps!
