Question Questions for my travelling sister?

My sister is heading your way on June 23 for a one year work/vacation adventure. She has been about 5 years ago, but that was for school, so this time is has so many different questions...some of them might seem silly...here goes.

Where can she go to get images from her digital camera put onto CDs? (She is trying to decide what size of memory card to get).
Do you have standard memory cards (compact flash)?
Should she buy a camera that takes 'AA' batteries than just buy a rechargeable set over there?
If anyone has travelled before, if we buy her a phone card over here, will it work there?
Do you buy gift cards? For example: could be buy her a gift card for a grocery or department store?

I don't know what else to ask. She has just recently found out she has PCOS (I have been pushing her to be tested for years!), so she is a cyster too. Maybe she could meet some of you if anyone is interested. She is starting in Sydney and then going to see where job opportunities take her from there.

Thanks so much for any help you can give in answering our questions. I hope they aren't insulting...they are coming from a Canadian, may people think we like in igloos and drive dog-sleds

THANKS!!!!

Amie

Default I will try to help!

H Amie

Well i will try to answer your questions but i am hoping someone else can be a bit more definitive!

Most photo shops now have facilities to transfer camera shots onto cd. So that should not be a problem. Some of the department stores also have photo facilities.

Photographic shops and some of the other specialist stores have memory cards - i know we bought a bigger memory card for my camera.

As for the AA battery question - David said to buy a camera that takes the batteries cos you cant recharge them easily depending on your location.

I would hold off on the phone card - when my sis went to England she had no end of troubles.

We have gift cards for heaps of stores over here. I couldnt say with 100% surety that you can get them with supermarkets (but i am assuming you can) but you can definitely get them with department stores. We have a group of stores that go under the Coles Myer Label and their gift cards cover a whole range of shops which is really good. Otherwise they are store specific.

Thanks for your answers Fee! We are just hesitant to send her with to much cash, maybe I can look into having a gift card shipped to me to give her.

Oh and yes I would LOVE to visit her while she is there...we will see I think it is to far for all of us to go, but maybe I can talk my mom into going (although she has already been)...

Why don't you set up a bank account that she can use with an ATM card? She can use any ATM here with her Canadian bank card.

If her camera can take the higher volatge here you just need an adaptor and she can recharge it. My parents are visiting from Canada right now and their camera is charging fine with an adaptor.

Memeory, etc. is the same here.

Hope you are able to visit your sister while she's here. It's a great place to be.

Janet
