Question Questions, Questions, Questions

Hello everyone! I'm new here. I'm 27 yrs old and DH is 31. We've been ttc for about 9 yrs. I was diagnosed with PCOS in April of 2001 when I had my 4th m/c. Hubby and I are considering adoption but have lots of questions. We live in Indiana and would like to do a domestic adoption. Our biggest fear I think is the Home Study. What does it all entail? Are our furbabies (4 indoor cats & 3 outside dogs) a problem? Is it an issue that we have a roommate living with us? Do we need a lawyer? If anyone has any answers to some of these questions please let me know and thanks for listening to me.

Your roommate will have to undergo a criminal background check and be fingerprinted. The homestudy is basically to make sure you have the room and resources to provide a healthy and safe home for your adopted child.

Thanks for the info. Do you know what specifically they look at? I know my roomie is safe with the background check and fingerprinting because he has a gun permit. We do own firearms and I don't know what the rules are with that either.

Hi,

We own fire arms as well, but they are put away safely from our ds. We are in the process of getting a gun safe as well for our handgun in the bedroom (for protection, just in case the bad guy makes it past the alarm system and the Doberman Pinscher). My sw wasn't too concerned about the guns.

The back ground check is mandatory and requires finger printing of all adults in the house hold. It takes about 4-6 weeks to get the results.

I wouldn't worry much about the animals. We have three cats (2 are strictly indoors) and a Doberman Pinscher, which as everyone knows, are killer dogs and eat small children for dinner (being sarcastic here). Shadow, our dog, is a big goof and while the sw was freaked out about his sheer size, she realized that he was a big marshmallow. The bm and her mother were/are concerned about the baby being around the dog, but I never leave the two of them alone. I mean, Shadow is a DOG and you never know. But he has never shown aggression to us or the baby. Just the birds and squirrels in the back yard.

Best of luck to you! Welcome to the journey!

That really makes me feel ALOT better! Thank you soooo much! All of our firearms are put up where not just anyone could get them but I was slightly concerned. I guess most of my concerns are little ones but I'm not sure how other people would take them. We collect firearms & swords. We practice alternative therapies and I want to open an animal shelter. We do live an alternative lifestyle which I am slightly concerned about but some of it is really none of their business and wouldn't affect our children in a negative way. Thanks again!
