The only reason you require a referral is because specialists get paid more per visit if a patient is referred.(I work for a specialist)
Some clinics(even in Ontario) will waive the referral beause they know in the long run they'll make the $$$ loss up with treatment costs.
Just because your dr refers you to particular clinic does not mean that you have to go to that clinic. Just be honest with those that you are dealing with.
Make sure you do alot of research!
We spent over $65000 in less than 4 years. Knowing what we know now we would definately not have chose some of the clinics we did.
There are numerous clinics in Canada & numerous sites for information(check the strictly Canadian post under the stickies) so before proceeding with treatment do your homework.
Many clinics have long waits (I look at it as if the clinic is in high demand it obviously will take awhile to see someone good) but they normally have cancellation lists to make up for it(so be patient!)
Anyways good luck & don't hesitate to ask any other questions that you may have.
