I'm no help on the GYN or RE question. (I see a family practice doc, I'm in the minority but he was the one who helped me after every other doc had failed to!) Lots of cysters here do see endo's and gyn's and can probably give you some advice.
You can check out the Find a Doctor forum if you're interested, maybe locate someone in your area.

Could a reg GYN be able to treat PCOS if one is *not* TTC? Or should you still go to a RE?
Thanks
A regular GYN *might* be able to treat PCOS, but an RE is usually the BEST choice whether you are TTC or not. Remember that PCOS is a whole body issue involving the endocrine system, and is NOT just a GYN problem.
Good luck! I recommend calling local RE's and ask if they are accepting new patients who are not TTC. My RE deals with all aspects of reproductive endocrinology, and has been very, very helpful and supportive even though I am not TTC.

I recently asked that question and was told an Endocrinologist was probably the better one to see, although a gyn. with a solid knowledge of PCOS would be just as helpful. But I'd lean toward the Endo. myself.
I visited a few REs that treated me like crap. I think as long as you find a dr who cares, listens, and is proactive in making you feel better it doesn't really matter if they are a obgyn, or RE. That being said I wouldn't leave my gyn for the world

I'm being treated by an Endo -- he asked if I was TTC so he'd know how to treat me. The dx was by my gyno who referred me out. Check out the www.aace.com for drs that specialize. My endo (who is 2 hours away but a leading PCOS researcher) told me that if I ever needed one closer by my house to check that site. He's the best so I'll drive to him.
