Points: 3,740.76 Bank: 353.54 Total Points: 4,094.30 | Quick Question Does Clomid work without taking Metformin or do you have to be taking Met and Clomid for you to get pg? Does anyone know? The reason I ask is because I have just been visited by AF and I start Clomid on Saturday, but my AF is light. Really light...unusually light. I am worried that the Clomid won't work since it is light. I was taking some pill to get my AF started and I think it was Provera...I am not sure....anyway, I don't want to start taking my clomid if it isn't going to work because I am not taking Met anymore. Does anyone know the answer to this? I would call my doctor, but I am waiting on a return call and we all know how long that can take. If anyone knows or if anyone can help me out...please let me know thanks. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

How come you went off the Met? My doc gave me the impression that while Clomid can work on its own, it works even better with Met. And when you get pg, Met is also supposed to help reduce your miscarriage possibility, which can be high with the PCOS.
Let us know what your doc says!

My Mood: Points: 113,447.16 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 113,447.16 | When did AF come and when did you stop the provera? Sometimes you can have a sort of false start to your period, after the provera... at least I sure have! Light spotting... not real flow if you know what I mean. I would wait a few days and it it stops - this wasn't AF. If it picks up - count the first real day of real bleeding as CD1.
If it stays the same, this is just a light period, not nec. a bad thing. It reflects what happened last cycle and is not a sure sign of what will happen next cycle.
As for the met and clomid - there is some evidence that the clomid works better in women who are also on met. Also evidence that women with PCOS are less likely to miscarry if they are on met and stay on it till at least 12 weeks of their pregnancy.
It is possible for clomid to work on its own - and it has, for years, as met is fairly new in the treatment of PCOS but clomid as been around 40 years or more, I believe. But if you can get back on it, it is likely in your best interest.

Points: 3,740.76 Bank: 353.54 Total Points: 4,094.30 | Thanks you guys...this helps out a lot. I stopped taking the met because it gave me migraine headaches and made me really sick. That is the only reason I stopped, but I am suppose to be starting back up on it slowly and maybe this will help with the other stuff. Thanks for all the advice. I am still on AF and it is still really light. I started on the 20th and I was counting on starting my Clomid on Saturday. I don't know though. I haven't heard back from the Doctor yet...I just left her another message. She is really busy right now. Thank you all so much.

I just started taking Met last cycle (my 3rd Clomid cycle) and I o'd my 2nd Clomid cycle (on 100mg) without Met. We're not sure if I o'd on 50mg Clomid because I wasn't temping.
But this past cycle, I o'd from both ovaries (still didn't catch either one.....). If the Met is bothering you that much, I would try taking it at different times of the day. I am on Met XR and when I went up to 1500mg for the first time, I was sick the entire next day (I was throwing up within 1/2 hour of eating anything). I went back down to 1000mg, but then went up to 1500mg - 500 at breakfast and 1000 at dinner. That went fine for a week and then I went up to the 1500mg at dinner (I forgot to bring my pill for lunch the first day) and I've been fine ever since.
HTH!!!
ETA: Oh yeah, if your first day of bleeding was on the 20th, start Clomid on the 24th. Even if AF is really light this cycle, it doesn't mean anything. This cycle was incredibly light for me (about 1 1/2 days), but you still count it.

I also believe that Met helps the 1st trimester to lower the chances of miscarrying. To get preggo w/my son..i was on both Met and Clomid...i also stayed on met till my 12th week of my pregnancy!

I hope that if I do get pg that I don't miscarry because I haven't been on Met. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
