Question Quick question...

My DR informed me that if I were trying to concieve right now *which I'm not, I dont think I'm ready for kids, but if it's in God's will, who am I to attempt to block his blessing and will* that Metformin and following a strict diabetic diet helps with conception. Have any of you heard of this?

Met. and the diabetic diet are for insulin resistance which is common in most PCOSers. It would be beneficial for you as such if you are insulin resistant, whether TTC or not. It can regulate cycles in some woman, and that tends to aid some woman with conception, but also overall reproductive health. It also helps with weight, which with PCOS is usually a problem, by helping with the IR. This sometimes also aids conception, along with overall health.

Hope this helps?

I went on a diabetic friendly diet and got pregnant easily. Metformin has been known to help with ovulation and it also can prevent miscarriage due to IR from what I have read. My GYN said he keeps his cyster patients on Met for 3 months or so once they are pregnant.

Helps with conception, or helps with ovulation?

@Kat...

She said Metformin possibly makes you very fertile and makes conception a stong possiblity. For this not to happen, and also to provide more estrogen, she put me on Yasmin as well.

I am not very fertile. Years of trying will testify to that.

BUT... put me on Met, and a lower carb-diet, and exercise, and I am very fertile. The combination of all of the above really change my odds.

I've heard that for a number of women. Kick starts ovulation etc.

I was actually the same way, minus met.

Low carb + TONS of exercise did the trick for getting regular ovulation...
