Default a quick question....

hey everyone....

I just have a question......how do I know if met is working for me......I have been taking it since March 8, 2003. I was started at 850 mg and have a follow up appointment in April........thankfully I haven't had hardly any side effects.......a couple loose stools.......but that's really it.......does this mean it's not working for me..........I waited so long to get the met......I hope it will help......I am not IR that I know of.........will my dose get increased.........any imput......or advice would be great.....

Thanks,

Billee Jo

At 850mg I'd be surprised if you showed much effect besides the initial side effects. Most women w/pcos are ok at around 1500-2000mg and anything less is useless. There are the rare few who do well on a lower dose but I wouldn't count on it. I myself did not get AF until I went up to 2000mg and AF is late if I miss even one dose of that during the month. I need every last pill I take in order to be somewhat normal.

IR does not show up in a GTT (fasting glucose tolerance test). You have to measure the insulin levels during that test in order to get a better idea of whether or not you are IR. If your insulin is higher than 10 (american measuring) then you are IR. My mom is diabetic and her doctor prefers to see her insulin at about 6-7! So, don't believe lab ranges either... sometimes they are severely off.
