Would Met and a proper diet help prevent low-sugar "attacks" (shakiness, rapid h/b, dizzines, etc)?

You see, The very nature of Met is that hypoglycemic attacks are less frequent..here's why:
When we are insulin resistant, our cells are closed to insulin, and our body, to compensate, really cranks out the insulin to lower the blood sugar. But Met *improves* glycemic control by helping your cells open up and use the insulin your body naturally secretes, so that you won't have to over produce insulin anymore. Met does not stimulate insulin production, so it is not the cause of low blood sugar.
Low blood sugar in women on Met is due to insufficient calories being consumed, combined with the cells in your body being less resistant to insulin..so it's the fault of a body working better rather than a direct result of the medication.
And diet is a HUGE factor in how we feel. If we eat the wrong things, we can start a sugar rollercoaster that is tough to get stopped. Say I eat a doughnut (*sigh* lol). My blood sugar would spike. As a result, to lower that blood sugar (causing shakiness, dizziness etc), my body would surge a huge surge of insulin. So my blood sygar would crash again, and my brain, starved for insulin sends out cravings for carbs/sugars to increase my sugars again. This can go on and on all day. The best thing to do to stop this cycle is eat a small meal of protein that will increase blood sugar without that wicked surge of insulin (protein does not cause an insulin surge).
This is all explained in the Insulin resistance Diet...a diet that is so livable and smart! I have been on it since fall, and it is something i can stick with forever. If you want more info, pop on over to the Diet & Excercise forum or you can read the first 2 chapters here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...er#reader-link
Hope this is clear and helps! CHristy

I just got back from my Drs appoint! Here's my post from the TTC thread:
I FINALLY FOUND A PLACE THAT WILL LISTEN TO ME!!
I went to Women's College Hospital today, in hopes of finding an actual GP who will listen to me. I haven't been the a Dr since 1999, when I had my colposcopy for moderate dysplasia.
It's a teaching hospital, so I had to see a resident. We went through my whole history, and she sat there with her text-book looking up PCO trying to find information on it. I was somewhat discouraged, but I gave her points for at least trying. She kept telling me I should be on the pill, and I kept telling her about IR and Metformin. Anyway, she had to go consult with her supervisor, and when she came back she told me that her supervisor had "a lot of knowledge about PCOS". YAY! She then agreed with what I had said about IR and Met, and stated the her supervisor had confirmed it. I now have to go for the following tests:
Glucose
Cholesterol (HDL/LDL)
Triglyceride
3 hr OGTT
fasting BS
Hb AIC
fasting insulin/cortisol
Day 3 FSH/LH
TSH/PRL/DHEAS
free testosterone
They're also sending me for a pelvic ultrasound, and a vaginal sonohysterogram. Has anyone had this done? The vaginal sonohysterogram? Dye in the fallopian tubes? How the hell do they do that? How much is this going to hurt??
I'm so glad I've FINALLY got someone who will listen to me!!
Thanks for letting me share!
