Default radioactive iodine scan causing hair loss?

Hi there -

I'm just trying to find out if anyone here has ever experienced a shed soon after one of these scans.

I had one on March 31st and they injected a small amount of radioactive something er other (iodine?) to get a better look at some nodules I have.

Last week or so I started to shed quite a bit.

I suffer from this anyway, but had it pretty under control until recently. I have other factors that may be responsible, but wanted to see whether this could be one or if I can rule it out.

Anyone see something like this happen to them?

I know radiation therapies can cause hair loss, although I'm sure the amount used for my scan was very minute in comparison. But I've found that I'm pretty sensitive and if there's a side effect, I'm sure to get it!

The thyroid is the only organ or tissue that can absorb iodine, it's why radioactive iodine is used to treat papillary thyroid cancers. AFAIK, it is not supposed to cause hair loss.

I didn't have any problems after I had my thyroid scan a year ago. If you are concerned though, call your doctor.
