Yes, that is high, but a random blood sugar test above 200 is what usually indicates diabetes. You should probably have retested to see if it might have been a false reading (very common with home monitors). There are many things that can elevate blood sugars, such as stress, illness, menstrual cycles, a high carb meal or snack (especially if you tested within 2 hours of eating), but a person with good glucose tolerance usually doesn't have blood sugar spikes to 170. Have you had a fasting blood sugar test recently?
