Default Rant about Plus Sized Clothes in Australia

Is it just me, or is it IMPOSSIBLE to find any cute, young clothes for plus sized girls to wear in Australia? I'm lucky, cause I'm now just into an 18 (another 2 kilos and these clothes will fit) so I can now go to Crossroads and Rockmans and get the stuff I like (printed T-shirts mainly) but anywhere else? NOTHING.

Go to your local 1626 or Be Me, or Plus Size and the clothes are all YOOOOOGE. Nothing is fitted. Maybe I'm just the exception here, but I hate baggy clothes. I like my stuff to be fitted.

Or even worse, its stretch material and sleveless. Now if you're bigger your arms are usually bigger. Have some variety at least! And what's wrong with cotton?

I feel slightly better now. Its done one thing, made me even more determined to lose this weight so I can wear cute things.

AMEN TO THAT!!!!
I soooooooooo agree with you both!! Surely there is a market for this?!?!?!?
I like fairly fitted shirts too Ren and I HATE synthetic material - especially synthetic material with big floral patterns on it!!!! It drives me BANANAS going in to all of these plus size shops (or sections) and finding all of the crap materials that don't breath and look CHEAP!!
I have just bought some new stuff from Myer (Basque brand) which I love, but it cost an arm and a leg (lucky I got gift vouchers for there for my birthday ).
Hayles, I used to live in a small town too and there was absolutely nothing for anyone over a size 16 - so I know how you feel about that one.

Maybe we could start our own plus size fashion line !!!

Apparently its impossible.

I have to wonder how well these bigger stores do in their "smaller" sizes. I know that as soon as I'm into an 18 defentitly (which makes Crossroads and Rockmans avaliable for me) there's no way in hell I'm going back to them. Despite the ugly, ugly clothes, as a uni student its just out of my range. $50 for a top!

Default no import business?

When I was in Oz, my dbf's father kept on me how i should have an import business (for wood and leather stuff).

Now plus sized clothing would actually be something I would have a passion for.

Too bad though I am unmotivated at this time but I will think about it.

You all need plus size clothes. one of youse outta get cracking.

I have a friend who did a plus size consignment shop as her project (for a class she did). She made it a viable business.

Ok, speech over...

this is actually my pet HATE. ARE DESIGNERS MAD?!! THey are ruling out a huge percentage of the market. Plus size clothing is marketed at women who are middle aged generally. I am 21. those clothes don't suit me at this age! Yet, anything for my age is targeted to sizes 6-14 ocassionally 16. I can get by with a 16, and have gone down in size almost a 14..

I'm not a bad designer, but i can't sew to save my life!! If i could, i would try to make a go of a HUGE market! No pun intended!

New idea...

Pehaps we should post a list of big-friendly shops and a rough idea of the price and size range?

I'll post in in the aussie spot... so check it out!

Oh God I hear you girls!!

I am not a slave to fashion - but I love to dress modern, feminine, fun, young and sexy (I'm only 32 and single) but it's SO hard to find anything!

Lately I'm finding eBay the best source of clothes. I just search by size and you get gazillions of listings. So far I haven't had a purchase that I don't wear. But I figure if I did - I'd just re-list it and sell it on eBay myself!

1626 isn't too bad - they do have a lot of middle aged clothes but are getting better, if you watch for the new stock as it comes in. I find the young and funky stuff gets snapped up SO quickly!

If anyone is creatively minded at all, PLEASE start a company making funky clothes for big women. It's BULL that we can't wear the young and funky styles. Just look at what's in the shops this season - it's all feminine retro stuff that is SO flattering to any size!

Cheers
K
