I rapidly gain weight too. I was down to 140 in June for a wedding.. As soon as it was over, I lost all self control and I am not back up to 167.... It sucks!!!

"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." Hebrews 11.1
Have you read the Atkin's book? The diet has worked well for many people -- I do recommend reading the book first. I also recommend reading The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet which has a lot of good information about carb dieting in it.
I haven't done Atkins in years....I'm diabetic so I can't cut my carbs back so severely....but it worked for me when I did it, or at least -- while I was doing it.
When I was first diagnosed with PCOS, I was fighting the tremendous weight gain battle. At first they thought I had thyroid problems because I was gaining weight so quickly that I had to buy new pants every week....not joke. One day they would fit comfortably and literally the next day I couldn't button them. Then I started having menstrual problems and that's when they thought of PCOS.
When I got back on birth control pills, my rapid gaining quit. I was on metformin for three months and was so sick I had to quit taking it. Now I am just working out and trying to eat less, although I didn't eat much before. I haven't lost anything yet, but at least I'm not gaining. I would talk to you doctor and see if he/she has any solutions.

You sound a little like me. I fluctuate 10-12lbs in a month. my doc is an idiot...she had the nerve to ask me why I was gaining...I said isn't that your job..lol.
Very frustrating..i feel gross. I can loose weight if I work out two hours a day, but when you feel like crap all of the time it is hard to get your butt going...
I have fat and skinny pants too..
The most frustrating thing about it is that at first you think it is something that you are doing wrong, but then there's nothing you can do to change it. Working out 2 hours a day is super hard to fit into a schedule, but it can be done I guess.
I think the worst thing about the rapid weight gain for me is seeing people that I haven't seen since last winter and knowing that they are whispering as I am walking off how much weight I have gained. I mean, it is a tremendous change to go from a size 6 to a size 12 or 13 in less than one year! I decided that by next winter I want them to whisper about how I lost so much weight instead.

oh I hear you completely...I WAS a very small size six (my pants would hang off of me) and now I am a comfortable 8 (I like to wear things big for comfort) and I am even uncomfortable in an 8 (they are not baggy enough). I lost a ton of weight a few years ago so I went from a 12 to a 6; now I am back in an 8 which sucks. I am fortunate though that I carry me weight well..it goes in my boobs and distributes itself so I still have a waist line. I started the atkins diet today which is going to be hellish, but I can't stand feeling like a blimp anymore!
welcome to sc i know what you mean about the weight! But since stopping eating wheat/dairy my weight has gone down.
eva
Thank you eva. I will stop eating wheat with atkins, but the dairy might kill me. I am going to just have cream in my coffee (I love coffee) so that I can function during the day..haha. I think that sugar is my main culprit; I pigged out on christmas this week on chips and candy, and I blew up like a blimp the next day. Full of water, had a horrible headache, very sluggish.
Hey does anyone have any advice on how to cope with the atkins "hangover" effect that one gets during the first few days?
Long before PCOS I did Atkins and lost 20 pounds in 6 months. The diet lifestyle was just too strict for DH and I though. We stopped and I gained it all back and more, like many diet yo yos. Sad thing is my chubby hubby went from 310 to 280 in thse 6 months and I went from 170 to 150 in the same time, same diet and I was even exercizing and he wasn't! No fair. He's gained all his weight back too. But now that I have PCOS I have the rapid weight gain thing as well. In the last 6 months I've gained 20 pounds, 10 of it since PCOS diagnosis about 6 weeks ago. I am also newly diagnosed hypothyroid, so maybe the met and levo will help, eventually. Now, if only I could get un-depressed and get to the gym!

its so hard to get motivated to go to the gym.
Sorry to hear that other people have this problem, but it is nice to know that I am not nuts too
