That's the problem I ran into. I got a PCOS diagnosis back in 2002 by a RE in OKC. I got pg with the help of clomid. Then tried another RE and og/gyn in Houston (we moved) and didn't care for either's treatment plan. We moved to the metroplex in 2006 and started seeing an ob/gyn that said they do infertility treatments up through inj. So I did 3 rounds of clomid, with prog support, and a trigger (the first 2 rounds were no prog support). I got a bfp but m/c at 12+ weeks. It was then I asked him to do blood work to confirm my diagnosis so I could start met. The only thing he would consider for a woman to have PCOS is elevated testosterone. Even though I brought up all the other symptoms and everything else. He also felt it was a nautral m/c unrelated to anything else. He said he could refer me to a RE..but I know he did it more to appease me rather than believing I really had it.
Anyway I switched to Dr Wilson for more testing about PCOS. I was a "classic" PCOS patient. The nurse seemed shocked that the ob/gyn I was seeing couldn't "see" it. Also, by seeing a RE and having her look at the big picture, I was tested to antibodies...I tested positive which means an increased risk of m/c. SO...I really wanted to write him a nasty letter about how women with PCOS can have a wide spectrum of symptoms and that he really, really shouldn't use 1 SINGLE test to make a decision.
I am now off my box ; )
A friend actually had a hysterectomy today and I met her ob/gyn. She was young and was really nice. I asked her if was familiar with PCOS and she said she sees several PCOS patients. I am hoping that I get a bfp with the RE and then can switch to a new and good ob/gyn. If I don't get pg, then I want a good ob/gyn that can suggest some alternate treatments for managing the PCOS...I'm getting tired of pills and shots : )
