Hay sis!! You don't have to be trying to concieve at all to see a RE. The R, meaing reproductive, means they are repoductive endocronolgy......reproductive specialists........meaning the reporductive organs !!!! Bascally a medical term for female parts specialist. I'm sure that someone else could agree with me also!! ( I thought I explained this to ya last time I called you, but maybe not that well )
Ok, I just wondered considering they asked for husband Jeff to visit with me to the office & I immediately received a packet about their infertility solutions programs. Something I didn't want - it didn't take much to confuse me!
Well THAT had to be nice to ge in the mail for you! I'm sure you got that and were like "what the hell?" Just make sure that you tell him RIGHT AWAY that you are not planning on having children, but you were told that someone had referanced him to you for treating PCOS. That's all. Say, you could post this on the newbie forum too.....
But what about if you're NOT trying to conceive? Is it still best to visit an RE or is an E just fine? Any recommendations for an E?
RE or E doesn't matter as long as they are knowledgeable about PCOS. I've been to an OB/GYN that was horrible but another OB/GYN that was EXCELLENTLY informed about PCOS. Likewise, I've been to an E that was useless, but the E I go to now (and her NP) are excellently informed. In fact, if I move from here I'm tempted to fly back once a year to keep seeing them! I've also seen an RE that was excellent.
The one thing I will say about RE's is to make sure they understand up front that you are not trying to conceive. When I was living in Austin, TX there was an RE who was recommended but he was not accepting patients unless you were trying to conceive. So it is important to know that upfront about the doc you are trying to see.
