Hey Hope
I'm pretty sure that women on the site actually use both the regular cinnamon and the cinnamon bark (or cassia). Generally, the Cinnamon Bark is easier to take since it's sold in capsule form in most stores. I've been able to pick mine up at health food stores, grocery stores and places like Wal-Mart and Target. You just have to look in the vitamin aisle. The dosage will vary from person to person. Generally, 1000-2000mg per day seems to be what is suggested.
If you're taking the pills, they'll generally be 500mg/capsule so you'd be looking at 3-4 pills a day. When I took Cinnamon I did 1500mg, so I simply took 500mg before every meal. If I knew I was having a higher-carb meal, I'd throw in an extra capsule just to be on the safe side.
If you're using the standard cinnamon you find in the spice aisle, I believe the equivalent dosage is about 1/4tsp per day. If I'm not mistaken you want to aim for about 1 gram per day. I tried this, but discovered I'm really not that huge of a fan of cinnamon-flavored things.
I've stopped Cinnamon, but only because my husband has an allergy to it. It started off fairly mild, but over the past two years has gotten worse, so I'd rather just keep it out of the house. Poor guy swells up and starts coughing/sneezing when we walk into certain grocery stores this time of year because of the stupid cinnamon brooms.
Anyway, hope the info I gave you helped some.
