Default Real or Generic?

I just received my mail-order pharmacy GlucophageXR, and it feels different to me. It has a chalkier feel, and even the shape seems a little more 'squished' to me. I ran out of the old stuff awhile ago, but I don't think I'm crazy.

The pharmacy also charged me the "generic" price for the 3 month supply instead of the "brand-name" price. Problem is, I'm supposed to get the brand-name stuff since generic metformin causes bad side effects for me.

The bottle says "Glucophage XR", not 'metformin', so I don't know what to think.

Can someone give me some information so I can figure this out? One side says '500', the other side says BMS (Bristol-Myers Squibb). That's why I didn't think it was generic....

This is the description I found for Gluc XR 500:

GLUCOPHAGE XR 500 mg tablets are white to off-white, capsule shaped, biconvex tablets, with "BMS 6063" debossed on one side and "500" debossed across the face of the other side.

Bristol Myers-Squibb only makes Gluc, Gluc XR, and a met combo called Glucovance (glyburide and met). They don't make a generic Met or Met ER.

To put your mind at ease (or not!) you may want to check out this site called Internet Pharmacy and Online Pharmacies to find out if your internet pharmacy is approved by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy:

Good luck!
