Default To be a real woman, you must have a child.

Morning All! I thought I would share some new research due to be released from the U of Cataria in the spring. Researchers at Cataria have been studying the incidence of PCOS (recognized in Europe before being recognized in the U.S.) amongst Australian Aborigines for 20 years now. They have formulated a new hypothesis: PCOS is a natural form of population control. The research points to a pheromone that is released when the population of the tribe becomes too large, thus invoking the hormone dysfunction and causing PCOS in the tribal women. In one particular tribe, when the population put a strain on the resources of the tribe, 85% of the adolescent females were diagnosed with PCOS. Eight years later, when the population had receded considerably, the same womens’ hormone dysfunction regulated itself, and those women were once again able to bear children at a “normal” rate. Bear in mind that the tribes being studied live almost entirely without modern technology (except medicine), and live a nomadic, hunter-gatherer society where diet is dominated by wild, whole grains, vegetables, starches, some fruits, and low protein.

What this research basically suggests is that women with PCOS should not be trying so hard to have children. The world is overpopulated, and if PCOS serves as a natural form of population control, it should be respected as such. Now, in the U.S. we’re fanatical about the idea that “to be a “real” woman, you must have a child,” which we all know if far from the truth. Believing that idea is like believing that women who lose their breasts to breast cancer are not “real women.” (Speaking facetiously: if they don’t bear children, then perhapas they aren’t!) Of course, I don’t expect anyone here to respect this hypothesis for the very reason that the fanaticism of child-bearing and womanhood has been deeply engrained into the U.S. subconscious. However, I do think this hypothesis should be given creedence and considerable thought. If a woman with PCOS cannot conceive naturally, perhaps that is part of the natural order of things. After all, Mother Earth is overpopulated, and there are a considerably large number of children available for adoption. Aren’t the morals and values we pass on ultimately more important than hair and eye color? I think it would be selfish to say otherwise.

Hum . . . That is very interesting, but not every women with PCOS has a problem with bearing children. My first son was concieved the all natural old fashion way, and that was after I had been diagnosed. Thanks for the information though.

Oh, BTW, you may want to check out the thread that your husband started about you. I would kill my dh if he talked about me like this behind my back, but that's just me. Seems like no matter what your reasons are for posting here, that he'd support you 100%. Here is the link to his post.

Will you please direct us to the U of Cataria website? I cannot seem to find it on the internet. However, I did find several references to cataria being the latin word for CAT as in the feline and catnip. If this is an accredited university, I would think they would have their own website.

What is the name of the study?
What journal is it published in, or which one will it be published in?
Who are the study authors?

I'm closing this thread until you can provide this information. Send it to me via PM, and I will verify it.
