Cool Really confused - which pills?

Hi Ladies,

I've searched elsewhere and may have missed it, but I have a question about the diff types of Met. NOT the extended release (had a bad time with that), but just regular Met. I began taking it in September, working up from 500mg to 1500mg in 3 weeks. My pill was a white, round pill. I lost 10lbs. I also broke up w. my BF and was eating weird, but my stomach REALLY flattened out. All day it looked like it did first thing in the morning. I got lazy and around November I started REALLY slacking on taking it. I tried switching to ER so I would have to take it less, but I was so bloated I looked pregnant. One month ago I went back to regular Met, but got it filled at Rite Aid instead of CVS and was given oval white pills and also was not charged, insurance covered the whole thing, instead of being charged $20. I went right back to my 1500mg dose, but the 10lb 'gain back' I experienced from Nov-March has not BUDGED.

I know that Met does not cause weight loss in everyone, but I did experience it with the round pills and now with the oval pills, I've not lost at all. For the last 2 weeks I've worked out 1 hour a day, 5-6 days a week and have completly cut out fast food, soda, candy, bread products - pretty much eating WW Core.

Any ideas if this is related to a generic Rx issue or if the 10lbs I originally lost was just water weight? (I was definitly using the bathroom 4-5 times a day and sometimes it made me throw up).
I appreciate any input!

I was on met for several years.. since 2000... and always had the oval pills.. they ALWAYS made me sick and never did a thing for me at all.. no weight loss, just a lot of getting sick to my stomach. I could never go above 500mg.. or I'd throw up.

Now I just went back on met... and got the round pill which i've never seen or heard of before.. I even took them back to the pharmacy to make sure thats what they were.

I'm on 500 and no side effects at all.. but i've noticed my appetite is GONE. I have to force myself to eat. I'm considering going to 1000mg to see whats up...

But maybe the round ones are a better generic??? I still have a zillion left over oval metformins and I'll never touch them again now. I wonder if you can request a certain generic brand?

Hmm interesting, that may be worth looking into. I've always taken the oval ones and I've always been sick on them.

Hey Stokes,

I am a pharmacy Techinician. Certain brands (generic brands) work better for certain people. So you definately need to check with the pharmacy that filled the ones you "liked" to see which generic brand it was. Personally, I really think that you lost weight by the constant diarrhea and vomiting.
