Default Really long menstrual cycle????

I have been on Met since Oct and my last two cycles were exactly 31 days which are the first normal ones I have had in a while. However I am still bleeding... today makes 8 days. I have never gone more then a week before. And its still red blood so it’s not like the normal end where it’s just light brown blood. Is this normal? Have you experienced anything like this before? I don’t know if I should call my doctor or if it’s no big deal. Any ideas????

Hello - I am not on Met, but the same thing happened to me in December. I had not had a "normal period" for a couple years and in Dec. I had bleeding for three weeks. I PANICKED and went to my doc. She told me that it was just my body getting rid of "everything" since I had not had a "normal" period for a while. A lot of mine was bright red blood too towards the end. My doc thought it was no big deal and didn't even examine me, which I thought was strange, but that's what happened to me.

It stopped and then a had a normal period in Jan. Maybe it is your body cleansing itself out - that's what I think mine was

When I was on BCP I would have periods range from 3 days to 14 days. I would probably only call the doctor if you go over 14 days. I went 3 months one time with constant heavy bleeding, right before I got diagnosed, it was horrible!!! That happened after going 7 years without a period though and was not induced by medication.

I've bled for months too but once I went off meds (antidepressants) it stopped. I'm not regular but I don't care, as long as it's not constant. In fact I'd rather have 4-5 a year instead of 12! I'm not nor have I ever been on met. Taking bcps to "regulate" me usually made it worse as in heavier and didn't stop it. One gyn said maybe it was "just what I needed" to get things working but apparently not after the months I endured on them. Medication and hormone free seems to work better for me in that respect but obviously our bodies are different and met is for a different purpose.

I'm going through somewhat the same thing, but I can't take met or bcp. I've tried provera and prometrium with 0 success. Would like to hear what you guys may find out as different treatments.

Thanks for posting to this.....It actually makes me feel better about it. It is probably just my body getting regular since I only had like 4 cycles in 2006. If it last longer than 2 weeks I am definetly calling the doctor just in case

Have a warm day
Heather

I understand how scary it can be. In June 2005 I got married, since then my periods have been all out of wack.. Before, I'd have cramps the first day, killer ones.. I'd have to pee all the time etc. 2nd day not so bad, third day.. I'd finish off, THEN start back up again with killer cramps, then finish by day 4.

In November of 05 I started by period. It was a little different, a little more painful. I was always tired, very weak. The bleeding etc lasted until after Christmas. THIS WAS VERY SCARY. I was passing blood clots, and it was scary. i had never ever seen anything like it.

The dr. told me I had dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Basically bleeding for no reason.... Hello!? I already knew I was bleeding. About 4 months later, I started seeing a gyno. They did all sorts of tests on me to try and see what was wrong. When the tests came back, they said I was just fine. Very healthy. In May 06, I was diagnosed with PCOS. However, the Dr never told me. I moved and in December called the Dr's office and the billing clerk told me that I was diagnosed.. HELLO?!

Anyhow, the point of this is.. Having a period longer than normal might not be a bad thing.. Except for you.. I'd still see your Dr about it, and make sure you track when you start and stop. Your symptoms. I would also track when I passed blood clots..

Good Luck!

I cant believe your doctor diagnosed you and never told you.....thats crazy!!! I hope you have now found a better doctor that will give you better attention.

Thanks for the info, I am suppose to start in 10 days so we will see how it goes and if it lasts 9 days again I am going to the doctor.

Happy Valentine'e Day!!!!!!!

At one point, I had an AF that lasted (no kidding) 3 months! The bleeding got very heavy; 1 super-pluss tampon every 45mins to an hour w/ quarter-sized clotts. That got scary! My Dr. put me on Birth Controll Pills and I took my self off of them after 3 months. 3 months later I was pg! It's a normal symptom of PCOS so don't worry. But, if your bleeding gets really heavy, or you are TTC, or if you have signs of anemia (sp?) go see your Dr. Hang in there!

Wow! That almost sounds too good to be true! My husband and I both want kids SO bad. I've been pregnant twice (at least) and miscarried both times.. Its so frustrating. I just feel broken! Thanks for the advice! It really is a confidence booster to know that it can be done! I have had thoughts that maybe I would never get pregnant and keep it!

I'm so sorry. I've never miscarried, but we tried so hard to have a baby. I was heart broken when my Dr. put me on the pill. During those three looooong months I lost 40lbs, I'm sure that helped a little. Oh, I was on Met too. Please don't loose faith. Don't give up, it'll happen for you soon.

I have a Dr's appt on the 22nd, so hopefully I'll get some answers there! Gosh! Its annoying.. PLUS, I think I had a miscarriage last night.. Once I passed it, it was like... I felt empty.. and the pain all stopped.. GRR!! I was late 2 weeks on my period, and had all the symptoms of pregnancy. This is the 3rd time AT LEAST, tired of it I guess!!

That's how I feel whenever I pass a really large clott. I understand that b/c you've already had 2 MC you assume the worse, please wait 'till you see your Dr. b4 you loose hope.
