Exclamation Really Low Estrogen Level?

I went and had a full blood screen and everything came back okay except my estrogen which was a 9. Im going to see a obgyn about it toward the end of July but I am wondering what can be done. Anyone else have this? All I can find on the net is about menopause but Im only 28 so Im not to that point in my life .... yet. Anyone else going through this problem?

Yes, I also have low estrogen. I don't know the number it's at, to compare with yours, but it's low! I'm only 29.
It is frustrating because most PCOs stuff is geared towards PCOs sufferers with estrogen dominance, so I am having a hard time to come across good information for this. I've been considering supplementing with black cohosh, which is supposed to help build estrogen levels.

I'm going to get my pituitary gland checked, but I think that's just a precaution. I'm going to start acupuncture in July for this.

Dont take Black Cohosh if you have low estrogen. Black Cohosh lowers LH levels which decreases estrogen balance. Try flaxseed as it has many estrogenic properties that can help you

ususally hot flashes indicate high estrogen levels. what were four FHS and LH levels? this makes a difference and can give you an idea of how your doing. women with PCOS have HIgh LH levels and low FSH levels. In ovulating women, LH and FSH is around a 1:1 ratio. In women with PCOS LH and FSH is around a 3:1 ratio. Basically thhe goal is to get your FSH and LH levels in balance. since my LH levels and testosterone levels are too high and off the charts, im using black cohosh for this with other herbs. 2 and a half weeks later i got AF on my own and its working.

I had really low estrogen levels, I believe mine was 3 the last time I had it checked. I have to do estrogen suppositories every night for 6 months then I will go back and have it re-checked. That was the only option my doctor discussed with me. He said taking oral estrogen isn't nearly as helpful and BCP might help, but not to the degree that I needed it. So, suppositories here I come!

I'm a bit confused. I thought flax seed/oil was used to reduce estrogen in women with estrogen dominance, not increase it in those with a deficiency. As well, since PCOS causes you to produce too much LH, wouldn't reducing it be beneficial?

I am confused... all my other levels including LH FSH are normal. The only thing that was off was my estrogen at level 9 The doc just wants to treat my symptoms which happen to all be symptoms of low estrogen.

Yes Flaxseed increases estrogen because flaxseed has high lignans. Lignans are phytoestrogens which are estrogen like chemicals.

If low estrogen is an issue for you I would suggest that you read at least one of the books by Dr Vliet (she has a recent one especially about PCOS and there is new one (I think it still is in the works) on Estrogen. If the Estrogen one is not available yet, "Screaming to be Heard" is older but still a good overall reference for female endocrine health - with some emphisis on Estrogen decline and Menopause.

Don't let the word "menopause" turn you off even if you are in your twenties - a lot of the information you are looking for about low estrogen might be found in books about menopause. If you can't find the treatment that you need for PCOS w/ low estrogen it might also be worth it to see Dr Vliet - her website is www.herplace.com - this is something specifically that she deals with.
