Default Really red face

Does anyone suffer from their face suddenly going really amazingly red, like so red that its purple? It tends to happen for no apparent reason although sometimes when I am stressed. I absolutely hate it..People look at me like I am an alien if it happens in the street. I am only 35 and have regular periods so I think it must be related to the PCOS. Maybe its due to the excess testosterone? What do you guys think?

I went through a six month period where this would happen to me at any time for no reason at all. I was also anovulatory. I went to my MD and she said I was in "psuedo-menopause" and was experiencing hot flashes. Which is related to my form of PCOS. Youre having regular periods, right?

Do you think it could be rosacea? About 10 years ago my face would be red hot and I also got little bumps all over it. I went to a dermatologist who diagnosed me with rosacea. I had to take tetracycline for a while but have been using Metrocream to control it. I have creamy, clear skin now and it's like I never had a problem.

Most people who get rosacea are of European descent and they tend to blush easily, or get chapped skin in the cold or turn red after eating spicy foods.

Google "rosacea" and check out the symptoms.

I was going to say rosacea. My mom has this and I think it runs in our family. I tend to blush easily and certain things will trigger it.....like alchohol - especially red wines, spicy foods and stress. My mom's got to the point she was being asked if she was okay all of the time, so she finally got it checked out.

Thanks guys for the answers. yes my periods are surprisingly regular at the moment and have been for a few years. A pseudo menopause does not sound like a fun ailment !!! and yes my skin changes texture when I get the problem apparently. Brilliant will check out Rosacea..Can I get help without going to the doctor? I am slightly phobic about doctors.
thanks again. i feel so much better xx

I started getting red faced (upper lip, forhead and chin area) at age 35. I hate getting out in the sun. This year (40) I started getting spotty, itchy skin when I get out in the sun and sweat. The dr. prescribed steroid creams but I now use Cortaid to stop the itch and flare ups. I do think it has to do with perimenopause. I now hate the sun and heat, but I can not avoid it as I live in Houston.

Lottie ~ I would look up Rosacea online, you may be able to find a site that lists what sets it off. There are a lot of foods that can do it, and some you wouldn't even think! I don't know if there is really anything that can be done for it except for watching out for those foods. You might try that and see if it is helpful. If I get a chance to find a site I will let you know too.

Do you have high blood pressure? You just mentioned this happens when you get stressed, so high blood pressure could be a possibility. Hope you figure it out~

hiya,

wet to the doctor this week. Yes my blood pressure is high, but not really worrying. Anyway the dr says not rosacea and she thinks I am just blushing plain and simple. It's funny it feels so like a chemical reaction, its so quick when it happens I was sure it must be hormonal but there you are.. I shall just try mind over matter and see if it goes away
cheers, Lottie
