I have been on met for a week now. I started at 250mg and just went up to 500mg. I have more energy and I am eating a lot better. A few quick questions. First, I don't really feel the need to eat. I am not sick...I just dont care about food. I am eating but forcing myself to and I am only at about 800-1200 calories a day. I better lose weight Second, a very weird symptom....i feel kinda out of it. I am forgetful and sometimes start talking a mile a min and feel really anxious. Third, I also have MVP(mitral valve prolapse) and I am just wondering if anyone else on here has this condition along with PCOS??? I have skipped heart beats with the MVP and now its worse since I have been on the met. Thanks in advance. I love this board
I have not started taking any meds yet for the PCOS but wish you luck with treatment. I would think that if it concerns you then you may want to give your doc a call. You could be having an allergic reaction to the med.
Welcome to SC!!!!

I have to second what Chas said, I would definately call your doc. It's important that you give your body fuel, so it's important that you eat. I've learned 5 small meals a day is what your metabolism needs (The Insulin Resistance Diet), if you don't give it enough it will actually begin to store you intake which means you will stop loosing weight. It's also important that you give your body the proper amount of calories, never less than 1200 though. With the heart issue, again, i would definately see your doc. Maybe met isn't right for you, you may want to try something else.
Hello!
Welcome to SC! I just wanted to post quickly to let you know that I had a very similar side effect when I started Met. I felt jittery and panicky all the time. I was so anxious I would pace around my house, and my heart would beat really fast.
I called my Dr and he had me back down the Met to 250mg a day for 14 days. Then go up to 250mg 2x/day for 14 days etc... It helped and I am fine now.
At the time, I actually posted a question on the Metformin board here asking if Met made any other Cysters feel panicky. So, you're not alone.
I am now at 250mg 3x/day and feeling great. Next week I go to 500mg at night....
Anyway, once again, welcome to SC!
Amanda

fyi - My Endo did tell me that the Met may act as an appetite supressant and help leveling out any cravings and your eating. I've noticed some jittering as well but it has gone away. Also, if you ever need any tests done where they inject you with dye -- contrasting stuff -- you MUST not take Met the day before, the day of, and the day after. My doc told me this and my hubby about five years ago had to have some dye work done for a retina exam. He immediately started vomiting and fell out of his chair like a quasi-faint.
