Don't hate your life. Hate your ignorant doctor. Any endocrinologist who hasn't heard of using spiro in PCOS is a not a trained physician. Run away from that person as fast as you can, they are not competent.

Emma - have no fear. unforunatly, there are some doctors out there who are less then understanding, and rather unreasonable when it comes to changing their vision of how things work.

Take this as a silver lining, and take the opportunity to locate a doctor who can help you rather than add to your confusion. (I noted your 'mood' on your avatar profile. )

Honestly, you'll likely find a practitioner now who WILL help you, and will understand. It took me a couple of tries too, and likewise my sis.

It'll all come through in the wash.

Best,
Cassy

Emma, I know where you're at. I had been unaware of PCOS for years, then when a nurse practitioner mentioned it in my ob/gyn annual appointment I set out to get answers. That was in October. I didn't find a doc who could really help me till April. I'll never forget the day I called my former endo to request all my medical records and when they asked why I said, "I found a doctor who can help me." Chin up, keep fighting, there's alot of support here. Most importantly, even when you feel defeated by some ignorant doctors, know that its their problem and not you when they are unable to help you. There's help out there, unfortunately for us who suffer we have to find that help. Remain hopeful in the fact that you are not alone, and do not let a doctor who refuses to help get you down. (((hugs)))

I had the same experience with my dr. I went in, as hard as it was, told him how mortified i was of all my excess hair, hair loss, how i was shaving every day, could'nt wear certain clothers, etc. I practically begged for spiro, and he flat out told me no. Instead he put me on a sub therapeutic dose of met, even though I am highly insulin resistant and have high adrogens. I got bloodwork done 2 months in, and all my labs were the same or worse. So pretty much, i've wasted the last 3 months where i could have been getting treated. I go back to him in 3 weeks, if he's unwilling to change his tune, it'll definately be time for a new endo.

Hey there I totally symapthise with you ...

When I first asked about Spiro my ignorant doctor told me he only gave it to transexuals for men who want to change to women !!!! I pointed out that I just wanted to feel female and to get rid of my facial hair adn to keep the hair on my head ... I still didnt get it .. for two years it felt liek every doctor was againts me and I was at my wits end .. its only through research and changing doctors that finally you will get some help

Doctors are ignorant they pretned they know it all but they dont .. sometimes its up to us to teach them. .. do what I did print out a wad of reasearch from teh internet and then give it to your doctor ....

I was told I couldnt use propecia for my hair loss and again was refused this .. I have since paid for it privately ... doctors suck and its no tyou

well this may sound strange but , im going for radiation for breast cancer, and the first 2 treatments made me feel sick ,had a funny feeling in my chest ,like the raid was hiting my heart and lungs , told the dr and she said it was in my mind ,and wanted to give me nerve pills , i said no its not in my mind it hurt my chest, the next day the dr used some kind or wire to make sure i was geting the right dose , and i was fine with the 3 and 4 raid .
now she wants me see to a m.d so i went to day ,she said i need a chest xray ,
cause maybe the raid hurt my lungs ,
and i told her that i take spiro but i lied just to get a scrip.
my bp was high any ways so ill see how it gos
some times you have to be your own dr. how sad is that?
thank yous all for the replys , its hard enough to cope with pcos , and i get breast cancer on top of it all .thank yous all again god bless ,
