Question Reasons for facial hair

Does anyone know any reasons for facial hair other than high androgens? My labs came back that my testosterone level is actually really low. I was shocked to see this given my problems with the hair. Is there anything else that can cause this? I have light skin and dark curly hair on my head. I think a certain amount of it is genetic, but it's gotten worse over the last 5 years or so. I'm confused!

Another thing to keep in mind is that once a hair "turns" it can never go back. The facial hair we have to deal with used to be little peach fuzz hairs that everyone has on their face, but when those follicles encounter high androgen levels, they "turn" dark and course like head and male body hair. But the sad thing is that once this conversion takes place, it can't be undone. So if your levels have ever been high enough to cause the hairs to change, it doesn't matter what your levels are now, the hair won't change back.

The genetic part is how high the androgen levels have to be to get the hair to change. For some people, the levels have to be super high and for some, even slightly elevated levels will be enough.

It's strange that your levels are low, but maybe your doctor can do further tests to see if PCOS is really what you have. There are other conditions that mimic PCOS such as Cushing's syndrome and Adrenal Hyperplasia.
