Points: 5,158.04 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 5,158.04 | Recent test results...what do you think? Just received my test results from Friday's endocrinologist visit. They are as follows:
T4=15.5 Range is 5.5-11.0
T3 uptake= 23 Range is 23-41
Free Thyroxine index=3.57 Range is 1.27-4.50
TSH=2.16 Range is 0.46-4.68
Still awaiting results of insulin test. Fasting blood glucose was 76. As you can see the T4 is high...what does that mean? My last test results in March were:
T4=5.5
TSH=5.5
Free Thyroxine index=1.28
What does this mean? My new endocrinologist thinks I have Hashimoto's. I have been eating right and exercising like a fool for the past 5 months. Initially lost 10 pounds in 8 weeks but now I can't seem to lose anymore. Overall, I have lost 11 pounds but the scale has become stuck at 140. What do I do? M.D. said he would give me metformin if I were trying to get pregnant however, I am trying to lose the weight and become healthier before becoming pregnant...what a concept. Will I even be able to accomplish this without some other kind of help?

He is testing Free T4 and your levels there look good, actually. With levels like that for FT4, the high number for plain T4 should be ignored as not relevant. I would like to see what your Free T3 is (T3 uptake is a useless measurement). It's probably a little low or your TSH would not be that high.
Do you take a T4 only med? It may benefit you to try a little T3 with your regimen.

Points: 127.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 127.00 | The new AACE guidelines stop at 2.5 for your TSH now. Your 5.5 is very high...especially for a woman who will feel best at or below 1.
The free Thyroxinie index is a calculation of your Free T4, not as accurate as a direct measurement, but the fact that it's low in the range could also point to hypo-T.
Most of these tests that were run are useless. You need to have TSH, Free T3, Free T4, and antibodies tests.
You say your Doctor thinks you have HAshis, but I don't see any tests that would let him or her know that. |
