Unhappy Recently Diagnosed :(

Hello All!!

First off I just want to say that I think this site is great..I have done a little bit of research online to try and find out what it is exactly that I should start to expect and have found little information. I have went 14 months without a period and for a long time would not let myself go to the dr. over it..After being like this for about 13 months I finally decided to go back to the dr..which makes about the 5th one and he finally diagnosed me with pcos. He told me I had this and hasnt even gotten my lab work back yet. He saw the symptoms that I was having though and asked a few very embarrassing questions and told me that he was 100% sure that pcos is what I have. I go back on the 27th of this month for the actual readin of my labs..
I have always been irregular with my periods but just thought it was normal cause I had been to like 5 different drs. and they all just said I needed birth control or that I was just too fat. Well Like alot of you on here say I dont eat enough to make me this heavy and I diet and cant seem to lose after a certian point and my husband and I have been trying to concieve for a little over 4 years now..which after talkin to my dr that I have now he told me I thought I was trying but it was actually a shot in the dark because I didnt have a chance seein as though I dont ovulate. Anyways he told me once I come back and confirm everything he was goin to start me on some kind of treatment and that if I did it the way he told me to that the weight would just fall off of me..he didnt go into detail of what these treatments would be..and Im really curious to know now not wait til i go back..any information would be very greatly appreciated..He also told me that within 6 months of starting these treatments that I could become pregnant..What a blessing that would be...I would just like to have some cycsterly advise seeing as though Im very new to this whole thing..I mean Im still not 100% sure as to what PCOS exactly is...just what I read in the pamplet he gave me and what little I found out on here..
Well I didnt mean to ramble on Im just very confused and scared and anxious and excited all at the same time..I JUST WANT TO BE A MOMMY!!! can someone with similiar experiences please enlighten me..lol...Thank you guys so much for this awesome site and I look forward to hearing your stories...Lots of love and support to all!! and GOOD LUCK to all of you like me that is trying to concieve..I wish you the best..
God Bless!!

Welcome Courtney you will find this site a source of information it has loads of helpful info and loads of wonderful cysters who will help you and support you through this.

Firstly dont be scared of PCOS and dont be scared to ask any questions here.
Every lady on here has been or probably experiencing the same symptoms as yourself.

And every doctor treats it differently a lot of women are put on metformin and for a lot they find it actually works I went to my doctors this evening and she did confirm that whilst taking met your chances of conceiving are alot better although with some of the other symptoms it may or may not everyone is different.

I just wanted to reassure you really that everyone on here is lovely and I am sure there are loads of cysters who can support you through this.

Glad you found a DR who recognized the problem. It sounds like he plans to put you on Metformin. He may also plan on recommending a low GI diet. That combination does seem to help a lot of ladies with the weight. Metformin may also restore ovulation. Even if your lab work doesn't show PCOS, the symptoms alone may be enough for a diagnosis. It sounds like you have a really good DR.

Welcome to S/C. Metformin has helped loads of the cysters here get pregnant, and even those who aren't TTC, experience great benefits.
Anytime you need to talk, you know where to find us!

Courtney,
First Welcome you will find this site a well of knowledge. don't forget to check out the chat room. You can talk to a lot of ladies real time and they are there to help to. It sounds like your Dr is great and he will probably put you on metoformin or the generic version which is glucofage. I also started a GI diet which is mainly eating whole grains and low sugar. I lost 30 pounds. And after only 9 months I am PG as well. So talk more with your DR and good luck at you appointment. !

I didnt want to hear that again, so i went all the years not going. Finally i couldnt have kids with my hubby. So i went in, found out i had PCOS. Its hard on me to deal with it, but this site seems great to me so far. They have helped me in every question i have had. (((hugz)))

Welcome Courtney!

I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow, we will be waiting to hear from you.

I'm another met success story, on met I had more regular periods, lost weight, and got pregnant!

I have always struggled with my weight too (and had lots of bad experiences with doctors too) and I knew I'd found a good doc when he looked at me on my first visit and told me that it wasn't my fault that I couldn't lose weight, and he was going to help me. Finally-- someone was going to help! I'm so glad you have found a good doctor to help you too.

You're a beautiful cyster. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers as you ttc. If you ever need to talk, I"m here for you.
Hugs
Jenny

WELCOME CYSTER!!!!

I am another cyster who is on Met --- well glucophage which is the name brand for met. When i found that out and that it was cheaper than the glucophage, i am switching to the Met. But they both work the same. My dr combined mine with the Topamax, which is a multi-purpose drug, but for PCOSer's it help with the weight and the depression. I also combine mine with "The insulin Resistance Diet" and have had great success.

My DH and i are also hoping to try to get pregnant one day. But my dr is very concerned about me loosing the weight first. She says that until i loose the weight, I am at a high risk for miscarrage and lots of health problems. Since she refuses to put me on BCP because it feeds some of the symptoms - Like the weight gain, my DH and I have to use protection. But the pregnancy issue helps with it all. Especially the diet. I consider bad foods "no baby foods". If i eat, that's a step farther away from having a baby. With every pound i loose, that's a step closer to having a baby. It's great motivation!

I'm glad you've found us here. The women here are wonderful! If you ever need to talk you can PM me anytime!
