Default Recently Diagnosed

New to PCOS and this forum...diagnosed within the last 2 weeks...

Started menstruating at 10 years old and was ALWAYS irregular...often having a period 2-5 times a year, all normal in duration. Was on BCP for 5 years through college, but have been off of them for 6 years. In October, started a "new" cycle that lasted 40plus days before taking Provera to stop bleeding. Started again on March 9 and just finished 2nd dose of provera...

My husband and I are ready to start trying to have a baby...dr prescribed Metformin...just took day 14 and am up to 1000/mg. Side effects are not too terribly bad. Not sure how I feel about fertility drugs...I am curious of anyone's experience with similar circumstances...
its all a lot to keep straight...tracking cycles that start with spotting and then nothing for a couple of days...trying to get the right day for bloodwork, etc. My doctor is busy and I sorta feel like all of these steps are really commonplace for her, but not soo much for me. Had a sonogram last week; less traditional cysts present...some and smaller, not soo much a string of pearls and left ovary is more heavily ladden than the right.

So I guess I am just sort of venting and seeing who else is out there.

Maybe you should try a new doc?? I not on Met yet so I don't have any advice (sorry!). but I know that I've been going to a gyn for a while who didn't notice any of my PCOS symptoms (I've had a wacky period since I was 10.) Maybe you need someone who can break things down a bit more for you. :-)

I am very new to all of this too. I think I always had really normal/regular periods until I wanted them to be regular. LOL! My husband and I started trying to get pregnant about a year ago and everything was going fine until one month without a period turned into 4 months without a period (and I wasn't pregnant). I have been seeing a fertility specialist since October of 2008 and have just been diagnosed with PCOS. I am in the middle of my first round of Clomid (up to 100mg), and this cycle does not seem to be working (I go in for one more Ultra sound on Thursday). The doctor will increase the dose to 150mg next month, but if this doesn't work I don't know what the next step is.

My biggest question is...can you reverse PCOS or reduce the symptoms? Does a low carb diet or herbal regimen help get you on a more normal cycle? Everything I have read so far seems to say that PCOS is normally controlled with BCP, but what if you want to get pregnant?

Anyway, thats it for me...for now. Newbee here just looking for answers.
