Hi All
I was diagnosed w/PCOS last week. I came across this site during my research and I'm hoping that someone can relate to my concerns. Here's some history:
I am 40 yrs old and have always had irregular periods. My oldest daughter (now 22) was an unexpected pregnancy , so no issues there. When TTC again, I had to go on Clomid and my youngest daughter (now 15) was born. I took BCP for years after that, but had to discontinue a few years ago because of elevated BP. Now that my system is (barely) operating with no help, I have been having issues and received the diagnosis. I had blood test done (THS, lipids and fasting glucose) on Wed and am still waiting for the results.
My main issues are the inability to lose weight that I have gained, the unwanted hair and the anxiety and depression that go along w/ years of trying to do something about these issues w/ no success . The diagnoses is a start, but my fear is that I will get a call from my Dr. saying that my bloodwork is fine. It's crazy, but I want there to be something wrong w/ my test results so that I can go on medication to try and start down the road to feeling better.
Have any of you had a similar experience/feelings?
Thanks for listening.
PS Reading the posts on this site have been sooo informative and comforting.
I was in the same boat as you and still am. The weight and hair are horrid. I take metformin 1000 mg a day to help keep me regular and I am on Lexapro for the depresion. I will keep you in my thoughts and if you need someone to talk to, feel free to IM me or send me a message. Jenn

I agree that there is soooo much information on here. You can ask anything and someone will either know the answer or point you in the right direction.
Welcome to SC! Some cysters do have normal bloodwork but have cysts on their ovaries, some have neither and only symptoms. Thats the mystery of PCOS, its different for everyone! Dont worry if the doctor says there is nothing wrong with your blood work, there is plenty of help out there, you can always seek another doctor! There is lovely advice here too, before you know it you'll be an expert! Good luck!

I agree with KimmyKitty, some cysters have normal bloodwork etc. but can still benefit from medications. My bloodwork was normal when my doc gave me metformin (I hadn't even had my ultrasound yet). Met helped me a lot (more regular cycles, weight loss, and eventually pregnancy).
I'm so sorry that you have depression, it's such a painful illness. :Hugs: I take prozac for my depression. We're here for you anytime you need to talk.
Please keep us posted on your lab results!
Hugs cyster

I know exactly how you feel. My doc tested me for PCOS Cushings and Thyroid problems. I was actually hoping for Cushings because it could be cured. I was convienced either they would find something or I was going crazy. Turns out I don't have Cushing's but my hormone levels are "consistent" with PCOS. My little sister has it and I was sure I didn't.lol I am glad to know it isn't all in my head that there is something wrong and it can be treated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So trust me you are not alone.
Thanks so much for all of your kind words, advice, and support.
My Dr is supposed to call me today about my bloodwork. It's funny how I have lived w/ my symptoms for sooo long, but now that there's an end in sight (however far-away it may be) I am impatient.
