Points: 542.10 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 542.10 | Recently diagnosed with PCOS I was recently diagnosed with PCOS. My problem is sugar. My doc is going to put me on Metformin. Right now I need sugar and lots of it.
I can have a milkshake every hour if I had the resources.
Once its in my head that I want something sweet, I can't rest until I have it and then I go overboard.
Needless to say my weight is increasing.
Does the Metformin really help?
Any other tips? |

Met really helped me. I never had sugar cravings on met and after I stopped taking it I became addicted to diet coke.
Hope it helps you too

I've also found that going on a low carb diet helped me out a ton. Now, even when I'm cheating on my diet I still can't eat sweets. It's just "too sweet" now. Get yourself some really good sugar free candies. Just be careful at first b/c they can give you diarhea. My favorite are the Russell Stovers Mint Patties. I like them a lot better than the real thing. When I was in the hospital I used to hand them out to the nurses to try. They all loved them and most went and bought some and came back to tell me they didn't heed my warning about not eating too many.
Anyway, I talk too much. Welcome to Soul Cysters. You'll find lots of support here. |

Once I gave in, I'd have way too much! I was also only eating three small meals a day, one of which consisted of fruit only... my insulin was out of wack. When I switched to pairing protein with my carbs and having 5-6 small meals a day, the cravings went away. I found this plan in the IR Diet Book. If you do some poking around, you'll see the members here have found various solutions to tackle their issues regarding PCOS. Good luck to you! |

My Mood: Points: 79,456.14 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 79,456.14 | Me too... I'm having the same problem. I've been craving lots of sweets and bready carbs, especially in the afternoon. I am about to get started with my testing, and I'm pretty sure they'll find that I'm insulin resistant. Everytime I try to cut out the sweets, it backfires and I eat even more. I feel like I can't control the cravings. I'm hoping that Met helps, because I'm pretty sure my doctor wants to put me on that after the testing.
If you find any solutions, please share away!

Met does take some getting used to, but it definitely helps, especially if you are IT or Diabetic like me.
Welcome to SoulCysters! See you around!!
