Default Recommend Shampoo/Conditioner

I have noticed not only is my hair breaking and falling out but it is really dry. I do color my hair and have for a very long time, without ever noticing my hair behaving this way.
I usually just use Pantene Shampoo & Conditioner for color treated hair.
I think I need to buy a more expensive brand for thinning, dry and colored hair....
does anybody have any suggestions with ones that you like?
thanks

I Have the same issues with my hair. The product that seems to have really given my hair some life is VO5. It came out about 6 months ago...I love it - They have different fragrances..I'm not sure the exact names but it comes in purple, green, yellow, orange and pink bottles. Its not expensive and seems to have slowed down the thinning as well...

I don't think the cost matters, it's whether you're using the right type for your hair. If you have fine hair then you should use a shampoo that is gentle but also helps make your hair look and feel thicker.

I like Charles Worthington Big Hair Shampoo which smells fantastic as well as working well, I also like Neutrogena for fine hair, or Head and Shoulders for fine hair.
I find that conditioner makes my hair lank so I use a fine leave in conditioner spray from John Frieda.
I also use John Frieda thickening Serum or Avon thickening serum which is FAB. And I use either Charles Worthington Big Hair Mousse or Andrew Collinge Thickening Mousse, and John Frieda Hairspray - in fact the whole John Frieda Hair Thickening range is great - but I am using his hairspray for red hair at the moment.

All hair stylists I've ever talked to say that Pantene is one of the worst shampoos for your hair.

I like Ahava and L'anza.

Thank you all for your replies. That is really wierd that all your stylists have said that Pantene is bad....i wonder why that is. I buy it cause of all the dang commercials and when i first started using it, i really like it.

I think I just need to try something new.

I have had three stylists tell me that Pantene is terrible for your hair and they believe there is a connection between pantene and thinning hair. (which in my case, i was using pantene the first year and a half that my hair was thinning...)

apparently, it is because is such a cosmetic shampoo and does nothing to promote a healthy scalp or hair, just "healthy looking." (as you'll notice on the commercials and bottles, they have to say "healthy looking hair" because it doesn't really do anything for your hair.)

I was told that its because its full of silicone (plastic) which is what makes your hair shiney, but really it has nothing else in it thats beneficial to your hair. I was told that all 2 in 1 hair shampoos have that too. Also, Fructis is meant to be really just as bad as Pantene.

Can you get those at Wal-mart though? Probably not. I have a problem that my hair is very thick (thank goodness so you cant see how much is really falling out!!) and gets oily quickly. I have bought expensive shampoos from stylists and I dont see any improvements. Not to mention that it seems like if I use a shampoo (any brand) for more than a couple of months it stops working on my hair and actually starts making it look worse :p I would like to find a shampoo that is easy to find (ie: walmart) not overly expensive and really works! Oh and I use T-gel for all my wonderful dandruff along with my shampooing and conditioner (yes I actually shampoo my hair 3 times a shower and condition once)

No...you have to buy the "good stuff" at a salon or beauty supply store. It's not terribly much more expensive...and it's so worth it. Salon style shampoos are much more specialized, so talk with an "expert" about exactly what your hair needs and they'll give you recommendations.

I was told the problem with shampoos like pantene is the PH balance is wrong. I don't have the problem with thin hair. Mine has been known to rub sores on my neck in the summertime when I'm too sweaty. I love Redken Products. You get it at the salon, and it really doesn't cost much more than regular shampoos.

Default I like clairol

Its fairly inexpensive and the stuff is by clairol called Renew and it claims to make hair 5x stronger. I'm not sure if thats true or not but there's a noticable difference in the amount of hair I shed when I use it and my hair has never felt so clean.
