Ok, so I'm in the process of researching the whole adoption thing...international vs domestic, agency vs attorney, foster or not...it's overwhelming! Any of you have a "must read" guide book (or several!) you would recommend? Can be for any type of adoption--I want to know all my options. Currently, I am reading:

The Ultimate Insider's Guide to Adoption by Elizabeth Swire Falker

Which seems to be pretty good--covers all the bases of both domestic & international adoption, but I'd like to know more. TIA, ladies!!

Several books that I loved (not really "guide books", but definitely recommended reading) are:

1. Dear Birthmother
2. Raising Adopted Children
3. The Open Adoption Experience (even if you are not planning on a domestic/open adoption it is worthwhile reading)

One book that I would NOT recommend is called Fast Track Adoption. From what I understand from people who have read it (I refuse) is that it is a book about how to basically deceive a birthmother into chosing you and then closing the adoption.

Best of luck! I must say that there is really no GREAT "how to" guide... it's all about taking it slowly and following the path that you feel you are led to and being honest with yourself AND all other members of the adoption community.

hmmm, I was recommended fast track adoption & got it. I haven't read it yet though. Interesting.

I did get adoption for dummies though & it's very informative so far.
