Angry Rectal pain, no sign of hemorrhoids (somewhat graphic)

I am ovulating (or trying to) today. Whenever I ovulate I notice that I have an increase in my bowel movements, which isn't necessarily a problem. I am usually very regular, though, (once a day in the a.m.), and it seems like when I have to go again in the afternoon, it causes some type of horrible pain in my rectal area. This usually happens when I ovulate but has happened at other times of the month, usually right around AF. I can't explain it very well other than the pain seems to travel all the way into my uterus and ovaries from my rectum. I can't walk - I have to lay down usually on my stomach for a while until it goes away. Today when I laid down, I felt like my uterus was being pushed back onto the pain site in my rectum. It lasted longer than usual today so I fear it is getting worse instead of better. Does anyone have experience with internal hemorrhoids and could this be it? Or do you think it could be an ovarian cyst . One weird thing is this morning before I had the thick cervcial mucous, I felt like I was leaking water (it felt like the beginning of my period but there was like a clear drip on my undies).

I have talked to countless doctors about this and I've been told a whole gamut of things from a dietary problem from my RE, to "if it persists - I'll send you to a proctologist", to an even "I don't know what this could be". My primary felt that it was something benign, though, because I have had it for years and it really hasn't gotten worse. He is the one who said he'd send me to the proctologist. I just really don't want to go through a colonoscopy if I don't have to. I also have some other cardiac-related health problems and have problems undergoing anesthesia so I'm hoping someone can shed light on this for me.

Thanks for any help.

Do you ever have fissures? (tears in the lining of the rectum and anus?)
Maybe it could be something like that, but then you would notice bleeding. I am not really sure, but I am praying for you that things get figured out

Maybe you should ask for a referral to a proctologist. I hope you get it figured out though. Best of luck.

I sometimes get severe pain like this if I strain during ovulation or period time. I think, perhaps it is just a uterus/cervix pain for me. I don't think it is a sign of anything wrong, some people are just more sensitive than others.

You can however have anal fissures etc that aren't overt hemmorhoids, that do hurt considerably!

I always just contributed it to bad PMS cramps. I get the pain around AF time, especially when I'm bleeding heavy and clotty (I know...TMI).

It is possible to have internal hemmorhoids (sp?), though.

I believe I can understand what your trying to explain.

It is not a constant sharp pain. But when it does come on it stops you in your tracks.

I can't say for sure...But I have dealt with that type of pain for almost 2 years. I was IB before and this pain is NOTHING like the pain that goes with IBS.

If you have had a child, surgery or cysts, you very well could have scar tissue build up.

For me, endo took over, caused alot of damage then the scar tissue wrapped up and around my bowel. I went from IBS to cronic constipation OVERNIGHT. (Aug 2001 to be exact)

I would bring it up with the Dr again.
Endometreosis and scar tissue can decrease the chances of conceiving.(#1 reason for infertility)
It totally distroyed my right tube and part of the ovary.

But you have to walk the Dr through it.

Research Endometreosis and see if the symptoms are what you are feeling. Then push for the correct tests.

Okay, Pattyann - I did a search on endometriosis and it was very enlightening and it led me to some other possibilities, as well.

I don't have severe pelvic pain or cramps, more in the moderate range in the pelvic area, but the rectal pain is severe when it happens. I searched rectal pain on www.inletmedical.com.
Apparently this can happen with a retroverted uterus (tilting backwards instead of forward like it is supposed) and it can press on your bowels. If you have some endo or adhesions they can actually adhere to the uterus to the bowel. I have had two c-sections and a D&C after a 2nd trimester loss. During the 2nd c-section I was told I had extensive scar tissue. This does make sense for me. There is also something called pelvic venous congestion which can cause pelvic pain.

Anyway, I am once again headed to the doctor with information on what my possible problem could be after they were unsuccessful in telling me. Hopefully this is the problem and it is not too bad, because sometimes when it happens I worry that it is some huge rectal cancerous tumor in there. When and if I ever get an answer, I promise to post it - and for all of you suffering rectal pain with me, if you ever get an answer, please post.

I really appreciate all of your responses and your helpfulness. I don't know what I would do without this site!!!!

HUGS (X)(O)(X)(O)

I also have the retroverted uterus as well.
I posted several links for all this up above.

It is all a process of elimination.

They can't DX pelvic venous congestion unless you rule out all the other stuff.

It's been a long road for me as well.

Diana24- Your post totally made me laugh. I too get those stabbing pains in the butt. They're the WORST! I literally start sweating and crying and often wishing I'd just die because it hurts so much! Luckily it only lasts like 20 minutes for me. One time the stabbing pain woke me up at like 1 in the morning! My gyno told me hormones can do crazy things including muscle spasms. I've had them for years now, about once a month, sometimes twice. I guess it'll be a forever thing

I also have a "backwards" uterus as my doctor put it. My DH theorized it has something to do with being overweight, but apparently it runs in my family whether you're overweight or not. My 15 year old niece has it and she's a teeny tiny beach babe.

When I get bad menstrual cramps I can't go #2 because it hurts too bad.. sometimes to pee as well.. I didn't know that was why... thanks for the info!
