Default Recurrent Miscarriage?

Hi All,

I posted a few times a couple of weeks ago right after my miscarriage and I was pretty raw at that point. Thank you all for being so supportive and telling me my feelings were normal. I am feeling a lot better now and actually starting to think about trying again.

This is my second miscarriage in two years and my RE mentioned that we should do some testing before we try again. My question is this: Is testing worth it? I just think the problem is the PCOS and going through genetic testing is just going to waste time. I'm working on weight loss (20 lbs lost since January) and I was able to get pregnant so much easier this time than last time. This pregnancy seemed to be going so much smoother this time too. I see this as progress. Any opinions? I'd love to see a new RE just to get a second opinion, but my RE is literally the only one in my entire state. (I live in South Dakota)

Thanks in advance for your help! ~Ann

After 4 miscarriages, we are moving on to adoption. We are looking to adopt a bi-racial baby from a private agency in Florida.

All adoption paperwork is done and we are patiently (ha!) waiting for our little dream come true!

Ann,
Many times around here the testing seems to turn out inconclusive and everything is normal. If I were in your shoes, I would choose between the following:
1. Talk to another RE, of course sending your charts ahead of time so they can look everything over. Ask if it would make sense to do testing. While all of this is going on, work hard on your health and weight, since you believe that it helped a lot this past time (Congratulations, by the way!). That way it won't completely waste time.
2. Tell your RE you would rather not test this time and go more with the standard "after three" RPL testing. When you're ready for ttc again, tell the doc what you want to start with and go for it. Of course you all can just chart and go natural until anything is decided.
Best of luck to you,
Sheri

I would get the testing done. I had my first m/c in August and told my re I wanted the testing done, even though I only had it happen 1 time. I am grateful I did because they found a blood clotting issue, so if not for the testing, i'd of probably lost more babies and the money is well worth the piece of mind, imo though. GL with whatever you decide to do!

I would definately get the testing done. We didn't start testing until after my 3rd m/c in 1 years time. I thought we got all the testing we could which came back all normal. We started TTC again & got pg a 4th time. During that time I found out that there is a lot more RPL Testing that could be done. I ended up having a 4th m/c so now I have to get all the other testing done. I would have gone through much less pain & 1 fewer m/c's if I had just gotten all the testing done rather than 1/2 the testing done. I think I know what my issue is now from talking to an RI (Reproductive Immunologist) but I need the testing to back it up so I can get treated properly.

It may seem like a waste of time now but if something is found that can be corrected then it won't seem like a waste at all. It's better to go in w/ all the knowledge (especially since you have the opportunity to get RPL Testing after m/c #2 as many of us had to wait for our ins. to cover it until a 3rd m/c) than none at all...

Good Luck! and {{{{HUGS}}}} Congrats on the weight loss as well!
Traci
