Default Recurring Depression

I saw the rage thread and was going to comment, but what I have is a bit different. Yes, I can definitely get into a rage occasionally - something as as stupid as the hubby leaving a cupboard door open, but the majority of the time I can control my anger without a problem. I tend to think rationally.

My big problem is that I keep dipping down into a depression. When I was on birth control, the hormones were regulated and the depression was non-existent. Unfortunately they began causing migraine headaches, which I had NEVER had before, so I got off of them. It took 6 months before the migraines began to stop and now I only have them very infrequently.

The depression, however, keeps coming back. Sometimes it's so bad that I lock myself in the bathroom and bawl, other times it's like I just want to curl up under the covers and stay there all day. I have two children, though, and a job, so I can't do that. Does anyone else go through recurring depressive periods? Have you found anything that helps to stop them from occuring?

You should make an appointment to talk to your doctor.

Maybe make some notes before hand detailing when the depressive episodes happen, and what was going on leading up to them.

My recommendation would be to get some insight from your doctor before looking for a potential remedy on your own. The actual cause of your depression could be any number of things, and that will affect which treatment is best.

Be sure, however, to make sure you're working with a doctor who is familiar with the link between pcos and depression. (That might not be the root of the problem, but you need to be under the care of a doctor who at least considers it.)

Depression is very difficult to deal with on your own. Asking for help is a good thing.

{{{hugs to you}}}

Wow are we twins? I know all about the BCP miagraines amd hate to say it but 8 years later I still get 1 or 2 real bad ones a year. As for the depression see if you can try a low dose anti depression. I have more of unablity to deal with high stress situations than depression in general so my Dr has me on Zoloft with enables me to breeze through the stressful days easier but doesn't make me a zombi like most other anti depressants did. If I have a highly over the top stressful situation that would send anyone to tears I still feel those but the smaller ones I can now handle like everyone else would as well. For years I tried to only take it when I needed it but I've finally learned to except you can't always forsee when its going to get rough so I just said yeah I'm fine now but leave me on them.
