Default red bumps on upper arms???

hi. I was wondering if anybody else has these little pesky red bumps on their upper arms (or anywhere else, for that matter!!) They sorta look like pimples, but I try using clearisil (sp???) for them, but that doesn't seem to help. My skin there is also very dry, because of these bumps and I put extra moisture lotion on a few times a day, but they seem to suck all the moisture in and get real dry again.

I've had these bumps since I was about 12-13 and they don't seem to wanna go away. I used Mary Kay's night emoliant cream for them, which made them WAYYYY better, but they are still very obvious. I've come to accept them and don't really care what people think about my appearance, it just sorta bugs me and I thought I would ask and see if anybody else here has them.

Thanks!!!

Hello

I too have these bumps ...

I keep forgetting to ask my Dr what they are all about becuz they dont really bother me (other than cosmetically) but I am curious to see what the other cysters say...

I don't have them anywhere else except for the length of my arms...

I have them too. There are just on the upper part of my arm. I very rarely will wear a shirt with no sleeves so they never seem to bother me.
I have just grown to accept them

Hey Ladies,

I, too, have had these bumps most of my life. They are also on my face and thighs. My poor DD has them on her face, too. Years ago I went to Dermatologist to see what this was. All I can remember from the visit is that it is a genetic thing. Also, I believe, it's a form of dry skin. Dr. recommended Lac-Hydrin lotion to clear up the problem. At first I was getting a Rx for this, which is the way to go if you can, because it's a little expensive. I have used this lotion 2x's a day for 13 years. It took a while for the bumps to calm down, but it works! Dh and BIL also have these bumps and have found the Lac-Hydrin helps unless you stop using it. Good luck!

I have them too on my upper arm. It just doesn't bother me enough to do anything about it. My sister has it and has gotten a script for it - but I don't now what it is.

I've also had these on the back of my upper arms since I was about 12. I'll only wear sleeveless if it's desperately hot! I've tried most everything, but think I'll try the prescription route again since summer's coming!
Does anyone know the name of this condition??

My sister has this problem, and she got the RX for the Lac-something ointment, but she never uses it so it's still there . I don't know the name of it, but she told me the Dr. told her it when the dry skin plugs up your hair follicles or oil glands (can't remember if it's one or both).

EDIT Exfoliating really well is supposed to help, as is using the ointment.

Thanks for the replies and I'll be sure to look into that lac-hydrin lotion/ointment/cream and possibly a script.

Thanks again!!!

Okay. I see it listed but I wanted to interject my dermatologist has also confirmed these bumps on our upper arms are only from a variation of some dry skin. If I use a real good lotion (recommended was Nutrigena) then they stay away. I can't remember the name of the lotion.

I used to have these, too. A friend of mine recommended daily use of a nylon shower (pouf) instead of a loofa or washcloth with a mild soap followed by a moisturizer with a mild alpha hydroxy acid.

I haven't had them in two years as a result.

I've had this... not severe... but I use a back brush over my entire body... and I just started using Neturagena - body scrub with salacylic (sp?) acid... My skin is really soft now...

DH also has this... and I just started him on the neutragena body scrub... I can already see and feel an improvement in just 4 days....

Ok this may seem silly but, I have had these bumps for as long as I can remember. I read this post yesterday and thought "oh, I am not the only one," and then went about the rest of my day. I just got out of the shower and I was very surprised to see that they are not nearly as bad as they have been in the past...skin is still red and I can see where thay have been as raised bumps, there a few raised bumps but for the most part they seem to be fading away. I am shocked...the only thing I am doing different is I started the Schwarzbein Principle diet two weeks ago...I know my face is clearing up and the redness there is not so severe...what I don't understand is the connection. Maybe there is hope they might actually go away?? I am sure it all relates back to the insulin / hormone connection but, I must say I am surprised. Unless my body is just plain weird and is clearing up for some other unknown reason.
