Question Red Raspberry Leaf -- is it good, bad, or what?

I'm getting confused about the story behind Red Raspberry Leaf...

I've seen in some places that it's recommended to drink while TTC and during pregnancy, and that it may be helpful for women that have miscarriages...

THEN, I saw a study yesterday that said women who miscarry should AVOID it the 1st and 2nd trimester, b/c it can cause miscarriage.

So.. which is it? I'm so confused! I already bought myself a bulk bag, and I really was planing on using it. Now, I'm not sure what to do. Of course, I'm not pregnant yet (I hope I am, but I don't know yet!), but in any case, I wouldn't want to drink something that could increase a chance of another miscarriage.

Any thoughts, studies, to share?

I took it from CD1 through to ovulation. Then I'd stop and start again at CD1. I've recently begun taking it again, as it is a great uterine tonic and is beneficial near the end of pregnancy. Some women take it the whole way through, but with my last pregnancy I was on bedrest for cervical issues and didn't want to take any chances this time around.

Yeah I read about RRL when I was pg back in 2001 as a way to induce labor....so when some lady I know who just had her 7th child said she drank a cup everyday....I was like are you trying to induce labor....

she said that it can induce labor in high doses...

I would say if you are worried then only drink it first part of cycle and then when pg only in last 2 months....or so.

the lady before mentioned wasn't due til mid sept....and had her baby 8/7/07 ... so for some reason she delivered 4 weeks early....

I was due 8/27/01 and delivered 7/31/01 ... it could be they say women with BMI of 19 or less when they conceive deliver early as well...

I had also heard of it as a natural method to induce labor. I had never heard of drinking it throughtout pregnancy. IMHO, I'd stay away from it just to err on the side of caution.

I don't think it's suppose to induce labor, but it's suppose to help ripen your cervix. I would also err on the side of caution.

Thanks everyone... Ok, so I'm for sure not drinking it after ovulation. The question is, tho, what is the advantage of drinking of before ovulation? Perhaps during AF I see the point...

It is a uternie tonic. It will not induce labour on it's own. It helps tone the uterus, and is beneficial for most women.

When pregnant, it can help prepare the uterus for labour. But I cannot imagine how much you'd need to drink to override your body's natural sense of when it's ready for labour and bring it on early.
