I also posted this on the Alternative Remedies forum; however, since it is about TTC I thought I would post it here too.
I have read that red raspberry leaf tea can be helpful with fertility. I just bought some Bigelow Red Raspberry Herb Tea at Wal-Mart. My question is this - Will this provide the fertility benefit? I just wonder if it needs to be red raspberry LEAF tea. Also, I've read that the loose tea is better than the bagged stuff. Anyone out there try either or know more about it than I do? Any info would be appreciated!

I personally like Alvita's brand of Red Raspberry Leaf tea.
It does have to be Red Raspberry LEAF tea. You might want to actually look at the ingredient listing to see what exactly it contains.
Loose tea can be "better" primarily because you are buying it bulk, so it tends to be "fresher" meaning, that it hasn't been on the shelf as long.
It does help with fertility, and really all things reproductively. Whether your TTC or not.
It does this by toning the uterus, providing it with certain nutrients the uterine muscle tissue needs for proper functioning. It also is an overall great female tonic/fortifier.
Its also extremely beneficial to continue drinking throughout pregnancy as it helps your uterus prepare for labor, etc.
I wanted to add, that buying in bulk, especially from a reputable supplier, will save you money in the long run, and you can make bigger batches of it as well. All you really need to do this, is a sealable jar, and a mesh strainer. I love RRL tea iced, with a splash of lemon.

I don't know about the fertility benefits of the tea. But it's probably best to get any herbage for theraputic teas loose leaf because you have much greater control over the contents and strength of the tea. You can usually get loose leaf tea in bulk for really cheap from a natural food store.

Samie, is it okay to drink in the 2WW? I thought it could have a contracting effect on your uterus, and that's why I think I've also read that it's okay to drink at the end of pregnancy but not through the entire..? But I know you've got your knowledge organized so I thought I'd check again with you To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. I've heard conflicting information on this...
And from everything I've read, some of this "misinformation" actually derives from a study that was conducted in 1954, but it was skewed because they isolated properties, multiplied said properties, and injected them into the uterine tissue of pigs and frogs....
Some midwives in the UK also caution against it.
But I've read in multiple books regarding fertility, childbirth, and post partum, that RRL is extremely gentle. In some instances, it is even used to prevent miscarriage...
I think with anything, you have both extremes...I take the middle road of moderation To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
I personally feel much much better when I drink RRL tea once or twice a day. Once or two cups of steeped tea a day, isn't going to overload your system, and most women see the benefits of just ingesting this small amount. Here are two of my favorite links that explain the benefits of it, for both fertility and pregnancy/postpartum. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. Oh, Thanks! I've been trying to change it for a couple of weeks, but the site kept messing up the upload, it finally took.

Thanks Samie for the links. They were helpful. Thanks everyone for your input. Here's another question: I am thinking about taking Vitex also. Should I get one of the supplements that includes chasteberry/red raspberry/others together, or should I take a pill form of Vitex and drink the red raspberry leaf tea? I would love to hear what others do, especially if they were able to successfully get pregnant after doing this!!! Thanks again for the input!

Hi KMH, Last cycle I took Red Raspberry Leaf capsules while I was stimming. I found this supplement at my local mom and pop health food store. I took six capsules a day - 3 in the a.m. and 3 in the p.m. I hear it DOES have to be red raspberry LEAF tea.
I usually have a terrible lining (one time it was only 5mm on CD21 and they are looking for minimum of 8mm on the day of trigger if you are undergoing IUI). But last cycle it was 10mm on CD16 which was so much better for me. I am not sure if the Follistim was the reason this time or the red raspberry leaf capsules, but I am going to do it again this cycle (unfortunately last cycle was BFN).
Sammie- Is your Alvita rrl tea loose leaf or in tea bags? Just wondering because I am only finding tea bags in my google searches.
I have done some looking on the internet on my own this afternoon. I think this is probably what I will do:
Vitex pills
Organic Pre-Conception Tea (by HerbLore)
- has rrl, red clover, nettle, alfalfa, chamomile, oatstraw, peppermint, and
dandelion leaf
My other option is FertiliTea (which has the vitex already in it)
- includes vitex, rrl, green tea, ladies mantle, nettle leaf, and peppermint leaf
Both options are roughly the same price, but I think I will go with the first option. Not sure why really, but poss. because of the green tea in the FertiliTea (I hear that it can interfere with the absorption of folic acid + has a little bit of caffeine). Also, FertiliTea comes from the makers of FertilAid, and I have heard/read mixed reviews on that.
On a side note, I think I might try Pre-seed and instead cups this next cycle also.
Praying and hoping all this will get it done!
Anyone try either the FertiliTea or the HerbLore Organic Pre-Conception Tea?

Everything in FertiliTea is great for TTC...
Vitex is best in tincture form, but pills have been shown as pretty effective too (also much more cost effective)
I do use the tea bags To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. I haven't gotten around buying a bulk supply yet, but I have done it in bulk.
The pre-conception tea is fantastic, and definitely give it a try. Red Clover blossoms are actually very good for fertility, they are phytoestrogenic, but don't have the same issues as soy etc. in impairing ovulation.
Its also GREAT for unexplained infertility. The amount you would drink in that tea, would probably make it more as a nourisher than a treatment.
If I had to choose between the two, I would go with the Pre-conception one.
Good Luck! If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.
