Thumbs down

Hello. I was taking this for 4 weeks and felt the effects straight away. The first two weeks I had to make myself eat otherwise I wouldn't have eaten at all. After the second week I started having problems with staying asleep at night. At my second fortnightly check-up with the nurse, I had lost 5kg (yay!), my blood pressure had gone sky high again and my resting pulse rate had doubled. All in 4 weeks. The gp refused to prescribe any more which I was really p'd off at at the time. This is all despite doing 60 minute workouts at the gym each day; I'd managed to get my blood pressure and pulse rate into normal levels before starting the rductil and now I have to start over.

4 weeks later, I am putting the weight back on, my pulse rate is still high and I've developed palpitations. When I was taking the tablet, I thought that as long as I lost the weight that was the good thing. Now I'm thinking that if I had been taking it for the full 12 months, I would have evebtually out the weight back on - it doesn't take v long for the appetite to come back with a vengeance! I've also been feeling v fed up since taking it.

I'm really sorry if that's not what you needed to hear, but be really careful. Have your fortnightly check-ups and make sure you feel ok whilst taking the reductil.

I'm sure it works for some and not for others, me included!

My gp offered me orlistat too. Stories of the side effects have really put me off it - I have enough problems with keeping the s/e from the met at bay!

Not only that but I'm a building surveyor and don't fancy having to run to contractor's loos when I'm on site or trying to find somewhere when I'm driving around or on the underground. I've been referred to the dietician and am waiting for her advice; I cope better with someone telling me what to eat than trying to figure something out myself - I'm just too busy with work and doing a part-time course. And am v lazy!

I think I'm going to stick with losing weight as naturally as possible. My nurse did say last week to concentrate on getting fitter not losing weight and I think that's what I need to concentrate on - the results are alot easier to see.
