Hello! I'm just curious to see if anyone that has PCOS has ever had regular periods. Here's my story:
I have had regular periods my entire life (28 day cycle to the tee!) until I went off of BCP in 2006. From the time I started AF until I was 17, I had regular periods. From ages 17-20.5 or so, I was on BCP. I was off BCP's from 20.5 until 22 and my periods were regular (28 days exactly). Back on BCP's from 22 until Oct 06 (almost 27) and that's when the irregularity started. I had a period in Nov 06, March and April 07, and that's it, until they placed me on progesterone and then provera to have a period in Sept 07.
Has anyone else had anything similar to my situation. Do you think it's a little odd that I never had irregular periods before then and have been diagnosed with PCOS? Just curious.

I have always had regular periods (except when I was pregnant with my daughter). My cycles are an average of 28 days, but individual cycles range from 26 days to 33 days.
I had regular periods for the first year or two that I got AF. Then I've only had regular periods while on BCP (which are fake periods anyways)...Left on my own, my period is VERY irregular.

i've always been irregular. i was irregular (about every 2-3 months) in my teens, then on birth control for about 12 yrs. where of course i was regular, but now left on my own, it's every 3 months, but i'm not ovulating. my mother, who i suspect had undiagnosed pcos, did have regular periods, but I bet she was only ovulating periodically b/c she was married for 12 years before conceiving my older sister. another question is whether it's possible for people w/ pcos to never ovulate in their entire lives w/o help? that's a possible fact that i feel strange about b/c i feel like i had no idea i wasn't like other women. i can't believe other women have been having CM and all that other good stuff all their lives and I was completely oblivious that I should have been having it as well!
Ahoff I was the same as you -- very regular (like clockwork) from puberty until BCPs at 19, then off from 21-22 and somewhat regular, though not clockwork, then back on for a few years, then when I went off at 26 I went 6 mos with no AF. I remember actually keeping a calendar in high school and I could predict many months in advance when AF would be there. I never knew how good I had it. No AF on my own at all anymore.

I used to have regular periods when I was a teenager and somewhat in my early twenties...then I went on the pill for a couple of years, and after that became totally irregular. In fact, I haven't had a period on my own in the last two years!

I'm glad to hear that some people have had regular periods at some point in their lives! It's so difficult to read about PCOS because everyone is sooooo different!! Everything I read makes it sound like everyone who has PCOS has had irregular periods their entire lives and are overweight. It's very interesting how there are so many different symptoms of this at different times in your life.

I had regular periods when I was a teenager too, like clockwork. When I was about 20 they just stopped out of nowhere and never came back. Now I use Yasmin to get a period every month.
I got my first period when I was 16 and then never got it again. I went on the bcp and was like clockwork. I was only on it for 2 years. I am now 32 and was just diagnosed in august with pcos! It was the first time any dr had a clue what was going on. I am not super thin I sit at 5'4 and weigh 120 so they didn't think that was why but never knew what or why till now. I was lucky and did one round of puregon needles and ovidrel and got pg the first IUI. That's my story in a nutshell lol
