Default Relationship between weight loss and menstrual regularity?

For those of you who lost weight and whose periods became more regular, how much weight did you lose and how long did it take for you to notice a change in your cycle? Was it right away or did it take a few months?

I was already slender, but I've lost ~15 pounds over the course of the summer (132 lbs, 21.6% body fat this morning according to my scale). I had one period last month and I'm hoping this month my cycle will even out. I typically have very long cycles (45+ days, I've only had three cycles this year so far) and am hoping that the weight loss will help.

I've started charting my BBT but I think it's a tool that's more useful over several cycles. I do seem to be running a bit warmer than "normal".

Improving the regularity of my periods seems to be more about consistency with healthful behaviours (a solid sleep schedule, high quality and nutrient packed diet, high intensity workouts that mix strength and cardio) than being at a specific weight. I've had my periods restore themselves at 180lbs and had them disapear at 150lbs.

Right now, I'm about as regular as I've ever been. I have periods that last about a week every 35 days. That's at 140lbs and 20 percent bodyfat. I haven't skipped a workout in a year and I maybe go off plan for a meal once every few weeks so it's safe to say my diet's pretty clean.

For me I had to go from 227 down to about 170-180 before my periods came back. After that I began having them monthly and have been ever since. In the past whenever I would low carb (strict Atkins style) it didn't matter if I'd lost any weight or not- I would get a period within 2 weeks.

Hmm.

Thanks for your responses!

Right after I posted this AF started. . . .5 days "early" (usually I'm weeks late). It sure was a huge surprise to me and I'm going to have to reschedule an ovarian ultrasound because of this.

But I'm happy to have AF here; it's better than stressing out over if/when it's ever going to show up.

So maybe my body is swinging in the other direction now and will even out? I sure hope so. . . .it just seems like a strange combination of healthy habits and a lot of luck to get our bodies working again. And even then it's hard to make it happen. . . .

I started out at 330 in August of 2008 and got down to 249 by february 2009. My periods went from 33 days to 28-29 days. I think they went down to 28-29 by christmas. So, I had been losing for about 4 months. I ended up getting pregnant in March after 5 years of nothing. I wasn't ttcing, but I DEFINITELY attribute my pregnancy to weight loss and met.

I haven't ever charted or really followed it and I am a thin cyster, but when I do start exercising regularly (not looking at diet at all) and doing about 1 hour most days of the week, I *think* in the past that my cycles were better. Maybe not the perfect 28 days, but much more regular. Without exercise I rarely have cycles less than 60-90 days, sometimes more.
