Relatives popping up at the last minute? My boss is just starting the adoption process. He asked me today how often/likely it would be for relatives to suddenly appear at the last minute, especially with foreign parents. I guess the lady at the office told them about a pair of children they'd like to adopt, but the parents were deported after the kids were already taken from them because of abuse---kids have been in foster care for almost a year, no one's shown up claiming them yet.....
He and his wife would love to take them, but they're worried about the odds of relatives suddenly pounding on the US consulate door, demanding the return of the kids. They don't particularly want to go through making these kids their own, only to lose them at the last minute.
Anyone got personal experience, or heard of this happening? I told him I'd ask on here---you guys have oodles of personal knowledge!
