I haven't studied religion extensively (except for going to Catholic school k-12) but in college I did take several Philosophy & Sociology classes in religion & world religions. At first I felt a little insecure in my own religion, like maybe I wasn't so sure what Truth was anymore, but then I realized that the challenges to my faith were exactly that... challenges. So instead of instinctively running from my faith when things came up I used it as an opportunity to deepen my faith & really challenge how much I knew about my faith. If anything, in the end, it made my faith stronger but also helped me have more tolerance for other faiths. I think it is important, too, not to just rely on the information that you get from a professor or text book. I have found that especially in the university setting these things can often be biased & sometimes downright untrue.
