I'm seriously thinking about relocating and starting over. I would love to go to Alberta!!
More job opportunities.......and just fresh.
Any suggestions, or has anyone relocated recently has found good job or living accomodations???
Thanks

Hi nature05,
My dh and I maybe doing the exact thing you speak of come the New Year.
We currently live just outside of Toronto but will be relocating in the near future. Currently we are awaiting to hear back from immigration to make our decision. Either we will be moving to California or Alberta(if immigration won't give us Visas) It just all around seems like a good option for us.
Although I don't have any good advice I do want to wish you the best of luck.
Make sure you update us if & when you move.
I've heard that Alberta is quite expensive to live in. But I think it depends where you go too. I think it's Calgary that might be the most expensive.
I left Southern Ontario 8 years ago, and started fresh in Winnipeg. The cost of living is very cheap here (gone up a bit, but is still cheaper than most places) and there seems to be a lot going on around here.
Only thing is, you better like winter, or learn to live with it lol

I'm from Alberta
and I love it here we pay 7% gst we have no pst or hst
I don't get where it's expensive??Some areas are pricey like fort mac cuz of the oil sands but a mcdonalds employee in fort mac starts at 10$ an hour.I live in Spruce Grove (just 15 min west of Edmonton.)I would'nt move for the world I was born in T.O but my family moved out here when I was 15 I've gone back to visit and I find Ontario way more expensive...I think we have the best of all worlds .We have west ed mall (the largest mall in canada and some say the world)for urbanites and we have small town living as well as mountains..Best skiing, best shopping, best scenery.Who could ask for more???
LOVE LOVE LOVE Alberta!!
What else can I say? I live in Calgary but was born in Edmonton and although it is big and busy, I wouldn't live anywhere else. Alberta has everything right in our backyard and less tax to boot!! It's beautiful and fantastic and I couldn't recommend it enough!
I commend you for having the courage to relocate and I wish you all the best!!
As a born and raised Albertan, this is the ONLY place to live, My DF, being a Newfie will disagree with me though! lol Yes, parts of alberta are expensive, like someone else mentioned Fort MacMurray is extememly expensive...the wages are high, but still do not cover the costs of living. A trailer in Fort Mac will sell around $200,000.00. People rent out their garages for $800-900/month! BUT that is a very isolated situation. Not all of Alberta is that expensive. I am in High Level, which is about 1.5hrs from the NWT border, and its getting expensive up here too, because it is booming. I bought my house for $140,000.00 and could easily sell for $180,000.00 today, only 3 years later. Calgary and Grande Prairie are also getting expensive. Edmonton i am not sure of the costs of living there. BUT there are so many smaller citys and nice towns where the costs are quite reasonable. And there is lots of work here, and our government has actually gotten us completely out of debt. Yes Alberta is debt free! In fact, every man woman and child who was officially an albertan as of september last year, is recieving $400 from the government because we have such a surplus of money now. We have beautiful mountains and parks, clean lakes and rivers to fish in, swim in, and boat in. The west Edmonton mall was mentioned earlier...Alberta has everything..except oceans...but theres one only about 4-5 hours away if you fly! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Alberta!

Don't forget the cold winters. That's about the only thing that isn't great about Alberta (nothern part any way). However this year has been great. Nothing colder than about -20 and that was only for a day or two.

I would take the weather that we had while we were in Calgary the last few days over the cold, damp weather of Toronto any day. Even if it is cold it's atleast dry which makes it alot easier to tolerate.
Well it looks like dh & I will be relocating to calgary in the very near future. I'm definately looking forward to the move.
congrats on your move to calgary.
You are right,it is very humid in T.O -10C here feels like -20 there (I lived half my life there
I hope you will check out the Calgary stampede this summer,I think you'd enjoy it.I'll give you a tip though...
If anyone offers you prairie oysters politely refuse (trust me you will thank me)Unless of course you/hubby enjoy (exotic?) foods ..lol..
