Default Replacing Diane 35 with another anti androgen?

I have been on Diane 35 for three months now and although my acne has cleared up (for the most part, and some times of the month are better than others), I have gained weight on it and am pretty sick of that.

I am going to make a doctor's appointment to get an ultrasound to see the effect it has had on the cysts but was wondering if anyone knew of what other pill I could switch to that woudl have similar anti androgen effects but wouldn't make me gain weight! I am in Europe so no USA only pills.

Would Yaz or Yasmin be a good fit? I don't know enough about the estrogen/progestin balance in them all to know what does what.

Hi,

Well I think Yaz is only availabe in US, so I would opt for Yasmin. Basically Yaz has 20mg of the oestrogen hormone, and Yasmine has 30mg. The higher the oestrogen with a good anti-androgen (drospirenone in these pills), the better the effect on acne and hair. So I would opt for Yasmin. Plus Yasmin can reduce water retention and help you lose weight.

Alternatively, you could try Marvelon (Desogen in some countries), which has desogestrel which in the amount it is in, is anti-androgenic and can help with acne and hair, plus it doesn't seem to increase your weight as much as others. I once lost 3 stone whilst on Marvelon, which was a shock but not bad! There is a little sister pill to Marvelon, called Mercilon, which, like Yaz, has 20mg of oestrogen rather than 30mg. This can help with weight but doesn't always help skin so much.

Hope this helps xx

P.S. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow to beg for Yasmin!

I have nearly completed 2 months of Ovcon 35 and I have actually lost a few pounds! I was extremely skeptical about taking any brand of bcp that had a higher estrogen content than Yaz or Yasmin, as I gained weight on both of those pills. But, in addition to the weight loss, I have had so few side effects with Ovcon 35 so far. The only thing I can conclude in my case is that it is not the estrogen content that makes me gain weight, but the type of progestin.

I am not sure if Ovcon 35 is available in the UK, but here's the manufacturer's website:

Good luck!

Thanks guys. I am going to go the gynecologist asap to get an ultrasound to see the cysts and also talk about the pill. I am still getting acne so Diane 35 isn't solving everything!
