Hello Everyone,
I am just beginning to work on developing a freelance career part-time. I am trying to work on some articles (both objective informational and first-person account type articles) about my experiences being diagnosed with PCOS at 19. (8 years ago).
None have been published yet and as this is a very personal issue for me, I want to make sure I'm really doing the best job possible presenting relevant, important info and sharing my feelings/experiences where applicable. This is where I would like help from you all - I've been reading the forums here for a long time, even though this is my first time posting and I'm always amazed at the intelligent, well-researched and supportive posts that are part of this community.
I am posting articles to a website called Associated Content (its an open community where you can submit a variety of articles/topics for consideration and you get small monetary compensation if they publish it). I have started posting there I am working on developing my professional writing skills - in a way to get some feedback and practice, before I start querying publications etc. I have only posted one article about PCOS, but I'm planning on writing a series of them.
This first one is informational - meant to be a brief guide for people who recognize that they have some symptoms, but don't know if its PCOS. I was careful to advise to see a healthcare professional and note that often none of these symptoms alone are indicative of PCOS. I was hoping that posting this in the community of Associated Content would reach some people that don't know about PCOS, but really its kind of a practice article for me as well - to expand on in other pieces.
I was hoping if I post the link here, that some of you would take a look at it if you have some time and give me some feedback, either on that website or here. I'm open to constructive feedback about my writing style, the content, things you felt I overlooked or was missing and things you think I need to consider for future articles about PCOS.
In planning for future articles, I am hoping to get more into specific research or treatment plans and of course will cite sources and hopefully speak with/interview "experts" (maybe even some of you!) about their knowledge/experiences. I'm looking forward to writing more about PCOS since for years I've just been focused on my own healing and keeping informed of research and options. I feel like its time for me to be doing more with the community and if I can raise awareness writing, I would like to do that!
Thanks in advance for your time and any comments or suggestions!
-Bonnie
