Hi Ladies:
I wanted to thank everyone who responded, and share the results of today's RE appt.
We discussed my concerns about my high-end-of-normal TSH (4.19 and 4.96.) Dr. said he typically does not treat patients for Hypo unless the TSH is over 10 or over 5 if there are clinical symptoms (such as high cholesterol or antibodies, which can be measured in a lab.) He said my complaints are due to other things, like the PCOS or maybe I should be evaluated for depression. (He may be right, I just don't know what to believe!) BUT....then I showed him the recent information from AACE, with the "normal" range of .03-3.04. The statement did not change his mind, but he did call in the supervising senior RE on staff to discuss (this is a hospital and they have a whole huge staff of Endo's & RE's.) The Sr. doctor said he disagreed with my Dr, and that newer studies indicate healthy patients should not have a TSH over 3, and that patients with TSH higher than that should be treated, regardless of symptoms or lack thereof.
The discussion sort of broke down after that (as they began citing results from various studies) but we all agreed a full thyroid panel was in order. They also agreed my case would be a good one to discuss with the other Endos on staff, and will discuss this at their regular meeting. I'm not really sure what to make of that ???? Is that good or bad? I suppose it is just an indication that the Endos and RE's disagree about what is "normal". No wonder the rest of us are so confused!
So, we have not reached a resolution yet....but we are getting there. Once my new labs come back we'll have a decision on possible treatments, if needed. Thanks to everyone who responded, I'll be sure to let everyone know the end result.
