Default Retin-A Micro

Anyone else use this? Have you had success? I have been on it for 5 months now and it's helped alot (didn't see a big change until over 3 months). I mean, compared to other stuff at least. I still get some breakouts, but they aren't as big and they heal faster. I never has cystic acne, but my skin is fair so I get a lot of long-lasting red marks that I am still trying to get rid of!
Right now I also use Clinique bar soap for oily skin and clarifying lotion #4. I like these products as well, although next time I will get #3 so it's not as strong.
I still have really oily skin though. Any solutions for that? Also, does anyone know if the body eventually builds up resistance to Retin-A like it does for antibiotics or benzoyl peroxide? If Retin-A stops working, I don't know what I'll do!

Exclamation Roaccutane - My story

Hi

Here is my story.

I was diagnosed three years ago with PCOS, something I had never heard of and not many people in South Africa had either.

I ordered a book from the States and started to change my diet and lifestyle and I fell pregnant and now have a beautiful 14 month old boy. I was told I was 80% infertile and would need to go on fertitlity treatment to solve the problem.

I have had acne since I was an early teenager and nothing i ever tried sorted it out. I went from one antibiotic to another and eventually this year settled on having a six month treatment of roaccutane. My skin has never looked this good, and yes I still have some breakouts, but they heal quickly.

What Roaccutane does is shrink the sebum glands so that it stops producing so much oil. Yes the side effects are really crap, but hey you have clear skin!!!!!

If my acne keeps coming back, my dermatologist will put me on a low dose for life, and that means clear skin!!!!!

She has recommended I use a special cleanser and moisturiser (no toner necessary - just splash cold water on your face after you have washed to close the pores) and they are really not expensive. I will bring the names with me tomorrow and post them. She doesnt believe in all these expensive products.

You dont need to spend a fortune to have great looking skin.

Firstly chuck all the old makeup....this doesnt help. Buy a oil free foundation (we use Revlon here) and apply it using clean fingers, and by doing this eliminating bacteria in sponges, etc.

Clean your other brushes with dettol or antispetic regularly.

Don't over wash your face (this makes it worse), only wash once a day (ie in the morning with water) and cleanse at night with a cleanser to remove pollution and makeup. Dont pick and squeeze you only make the problem worse and cause scarring. And yes, the red ugly marks will evenutally fade!

I would like to hear more of you stories!

Best regards

Anita

Hello Anita,

I was interested in knowing the name of the facial cleanser your Dr. recommended? I hve oily skin, and my black heads. I have tried Benz. Peroxide, and Salycidia acid but that tends to dry my skin. What actually works, and Improves my sjim ALOT is being out in the sun..It's great for the summer months, but the remainder seasons I suffer.

Is roaccutane the same as Accutane? I've been prescribed Retin-A but It "prolongs" the zits more. I'm glad you've shared.

What do you mean by "prolongs" zits? There is an initial period on retin-a where the acne is worse. But after 3 months I started seeing a difference. Now at 6 months, my face is a lot better. It's not perfect, but I can handle it. This is the only thing that has made a dent in it so far. I've found that retin-a makes my skin heal faster, so that when I do get a zit, it heals quickly and post-blemish marks fade faster.
I'm too scared to try accutane! What if my hair falls out or I do long-term damage to myself? It's a last resort, something I won't do unless I'm desperate.

ViolaMarie (or anyone that can answer)- I don't know if you have trouble with facial hair but if you do has the retin-a helped prevent ingrown hairs that some of us get? I just started it today, but alot of times my "pimples" are really irritated follicles from a hair so I don't know if this will help. Maybe???

Sorry, I don't have facial hair so I'm not sure if it will help w/ ingrown hairs or not. What did your dermatologist say about it?

I started using Retin-A in June and I love it! My dermatologist is also a good friend of the family and she prescribed it for me. She said she has been using Retin-A Micro since she was a child. It is perfectly safe to use for extended periods of time. She said that I should use it everyday for life. I found that it took 6-8 weeks for my skin to clear up. My acne got worse before it got better. Now my skin is completely clear. I can tell when I miss a night, but if I put it on every night my skin looks and feels great! It is a little expensive, but I decided it about equaled what I have spent on over-the-counter remedies that didn't work. I am more than willing to spend the money on Retin-A since I know it works.

Since I got my BFP last week I have had to stop using it, but I plan to resume as soon as my derm says it is okay.
