Default revisiting clomid after m/c but can't figure out provera!

Okay so I'm going back on clomid after m/c.. I actually got A/F naturally on Nov 30th. 9 weeks after my D & C and I know I ovulated on that one (first time since Feb I got a natural AF). I've been watching CM since and doing some OPK's but I just don't see signs of ovulation. We've not been trying, but not preventing but that only started on Dec 14th and only 1 time...

So should I just assume myself on a 28 days cycle to be able to get AF? Im so confused.. When should I start taking the provera to start my next cycle so I can start clomid?

I always chart BBT to check for Ov. If it doesn't happen by CD 20-30 I will typically start Provera or Prometrium.

If you have no way of knowing if you Ov or not I would recommend waiting until CD32, and if no AF maybe start Provera.

However, I think it would be best for you to use Prometrium to bring on AF since you have no idea when/if you Ov. Provera has been linked to birth defects, so you don't want to take it if there is a chance you Ov'ed. My RE won't even prescribe Provera to bring on AF... he only prescribes Prometrium.

Can you get a progesterone draw (P4) done on CD21, or later, to see if Ov has occurred, and then start Provera if it shows you did not Ov yet? Or talk your doctor into letting you just use Prometrium instead?

OMG! I AM SO GLAD you reminded me about Provera.. On my script is says Medroxyprogesterone. and I kept thinking that Provera WAS Prometrium but provera was its technical term.. confused yet? I totally forgot there are two different types to induce AF.. arg what and idiot i am!

I consitantly told my doctor I CANNOT have birth control of any kind. And provera is a form of birth control. Last time I was on birth control I had MAJOR heart issues.. I wasn't on Provera but I was on another kind and I've ended up having to to the the cardiologist since that day like 8 years ago. Now I'm pissed!!! I can't believe I didn't catch that and I don't want to know what would of happen had I NOT!!

Medroxyprogesterone is Provera, yeah. It's the synthetic progesterone, and Prometium is the natural progesterone. It is not BCP though. It is used to bring on AF on AO cycles, and to help woman with issues like a never ending AF.

If you mean it being like BCP in regards to how it will prevent Ov if it hasn't happened yet... Prometrium does the same thing. They are both progesterone, it's just ones natural and one's fake. But you have to end an AO cycle at some point anyways, that way you can start a new cycle.

Of course, if you Ov you don't have to worry about any of that.

OH PHEW! I was seriously scared there!!! I thought provera was a form of depoprovera which is birthcontrol? Lol! I think I'm just gonna ask for the prometrium tomorrow.. the natural stuff...i think thats all I've ever taken and its worked just fine.

im pretty sure that I'm going to have to take it I think this is going to be an AO cycle, unless im just gonna OV really late.. so I'd just be more comfortable taking the natural stuff. Thanks!!

No problem. I hope your doc can prescribe you the Prometrium. I don't see why they wouldn't. It's always better to be safe than sorry anyways.

Best wishes.

You should try natural progesterone cream. Man, provera and prometrium give me terrible side effects (terrible sweats and hot/cold flashes, and wicked mood swings). The NPC doesn't, and every time I have used it I have had it work perfect. I think the RX progesterone is generally much stronger than what we need to actually induce AF, so using NPC might work better because you can get the benefit without the side effect, and with your health history that would be important.

And FYI, Provera is the same medication that is in Depo-Provera (medroxyprogesterone) so if you have had negative reactions to it before, I would stay away just to be on the safe side.

Quick question here. I'm just about to finish my Clomid (day 2-6) after a period brought on by Provera. What day of my cycle should I typically expect to ovulate? I know this is basic, but I'm clueless!!!

Tory: They say that if you're going to Ov after Clomid it should be 5-10 days after the last pill... though some cysters Ov much later. The best way to make sure you don't miss it is to BD at least every other day.

My doctor wants to put me on RX progesterone cream, but I've heard conflicting stories about how well it works/side effects, etc. Any advice?

Tory: there is no one right answer. Everyone's body is different. About a year and half ago, after not getting a period for 3 months, I was put on provera and clomid 50mg. I assumed that I ovulated somewhere around cd 15 (no proof like bbt or anything to back this up - i was naive back then and assumed that all women ovulate around cd14 or cd15), and dh and i did bd from cd 12 to cd 16, and then not again until cd25. When I didn't get AF on time, I thought it was becuz of my irregular cycle, but it turned out that i was pregnant. During that month of pregnancy, it always seemed as if the fetus was "behind" the timeline, until the doctor finally said that according to the baby's growth, if they count backwards, it actually turned out that our bd on cd25 was when we conceived. Unfortunately, that pregnancy ended up in an m/c but that's a different story. Everyone's bodies are different and react to medications different, so it would be good for you to chart your bbt and try the OPK starting on cd 12 to know exactly when you ovulate. Dont assume anything based on what's out there as the "norm".
